Hellabrunn Zoo in Munich is a true attraction. It is ideal, especially for children! However, you should not let children run around unsupervised because a river runs through the entire zoo: although it is bordered by small fences, one can easily climb over them. That is the only danger you will find here. For children, it is a great experience to be able to discover so many animals. Especially when they are even allowed to observe the animals from up close.

Petting zoo
There are two petting zoos where the little ones can feed and pet the goats and sheep. Basically, the animals are quite tame and put up with a lot. For older children, there is also Haflinger riding here, and those who are very brave can even ride a camel.
Animal houses
The zoo is home to all kinds of animals that can be found all over the world and even has beautiful animal houses dedicated to specific themes. For example, there is the wildcat house, which is lovingly designed like a rainforest, or the jungle house. The bird enclosure allows you to get very close to the feathered friends; they fly around freely here.
At certain times, you can also attend a sea lion show, which is always very popular.
Aquarium
The aquarium in particular should appeal to older children. You walk underground past very beautiful aquariums; everything from local carp to Amazonian fish is represented here.
In winter, the penguins always get a little free-roaming time, when a keeper walks with them across the zoo. This is, of course, great for children!
Special events
Depending on the season, there are special events, such as at Easter. The zoo is bursting at the seams then. During this time, Easter eggs are hidden and the children are allowed to search for them; it's clear that half of Munich is out and about in the zoo then.
Catering
Of course, your physical well-being is also well taken care of here. You can find stalls selling food on almost every corner, and there is a restaurant with a beer garden.
Children
For children, there is a very nice playground with bumper cars, a suspension bridge, and, of course, everything that belongs on a playground.
Conclusion
Anyone who wants to see everything in detail will hardly manage it in half a day; the animal houses alone easily take an hour.
When visiting the zoo, you should definitely keep in mind that many animals hibernate in winter. Since they are kept outdoors, they naturally follow their instincts. So you shouldn't be disappointed if you don't see any brown bears in winter. Many of the wildcats are also kept in the houses at this time and are therefore not visible to visitors. In the remaining seasons, however, all animals can be encountered.
For young and old, Hellabrunn Zoo is a great excursion destination and is simply one of the favorite destinations for Munich residents.

- Dogs: They must be kept on a leash and are not allowed in the animal houses!
- Vehicles: Bicycles, even those for children, are not allowed in the zoo. However, you can rent a handcart at the ticket office for a deposit.
