Often it is a lack of sleep, sometimes perhaps tearful hours, but usually it is more likely increased work at the computer: we are talking about swollen eyelids. Puffy bags under the eyes, swollen lids, and reddish eyes are not nice to look at, they also feel uncomfortable and affect our everyday life. However, you don't have to live with it – you can do all sorts of things against this ailment.
4 home remedies for swollen eyelids
Cold chamomile compresses
Prepare chamomile tea and let it cool down, preferably in the refrigerator. Then soak cotton pads in it and place them on the closed lids.
Cold yogurt compresses
Place yogurt-soaked cotton pads on the eyes.
Cold cucumber slices

Cold black tea
Prepare black tea, put the tea bags in the refrigerator and let them cool down. Place the cold tea bags on the eyelids.
Eight tips for swollen lids
1. Drink plenty of fluids
The top rule against puffy eyes is: drink! Especially those who are prone to swollen eyelids can work against puffy eyes by consuming plenty of fluids. Experts also advise against very salty foods and licorice.Reason:tissue fluid in the skin is blocked by too much salt, leading to deposits and thus to puffy lids.
Important:still water, unsweetened teas, and also juice spritzers for variety are ideal for keeping the water balance constant throughout the day.
2. Do not rub!
Irritated eyes that also water and itch are quite uncomfortable. Nothing would be better than rubbing your eyes, but that is a big mistake.Important:resist the temptation, even if it is difficult. Because if you simply rub your swollen eyelids with your fingers, you will only make things worse sooner or later. Only one thing helps against irritated lids:eye drops – and these are available in all pharmacies. And here again, the premise applies: drink a lot, a lot. Because burning and dry eyes are clearly a sign of fluid deficiency.
3. Sleep as an insider tip
When nothing else works, sleep is still the best medicine. The eyes can use sleep for regeneration, you avoid rubbing your eyes, and the eyes can recover. However, what can you do if even beauty sleep no longer helps? Then you should rethink your sleeping position.
Insanity? Not really. Flatter pillows are indeed helpful. In addition, the duration of sleep also has something to do with the thickness of the eyelids. Too little sleep harms our eyes. Ideal, however, is a healthy sleep ofapprox. 7 hours.Likewise, the right room temperature can be useful. The warmer a room is, the puffier the eyes become. Therefore, you should lower the room temperature before sleeping toapproximately 18° Celsius.
4. A nap in honor...
The more rest the eyes get, the better. Even if it's just a small break, your eyes will thank you. Simply close your eyes, doze off, and forget everything around you. This not only makes your eyes lively again but is also good for your general well-being.
5. Cooling
If things need to be done quickly, you don't have time for a nap, and the next meeting is already coming up, you can tackle swollen lids well with cosmetics. Simply place a water-soaked and chilled chamomile tea bag on your eyes. The eyes can transport away waste products and the tissue de-swells.
However, be careful with cooling masks or ice-cold teaspoons:objects that are too cold irritate the skin, and the already thin skin of the eyelids becomes irritated and, in the worst case, can even cause inflammation.
6. Light massages
For slightly swollen eyes, a small massage can do wonders. Microcirculation helps the cells to regenerate and transport away accumulated waste products. However, the following applies here:do not rub the eyelids wildly, but proceed gently. Tap lightly with your fingertips along the bags under your eyes and skillfully smooth away swelling.
7. Creams & Co.
Massages can of course be supported with suitable creams. Look forde-puffing preparations, which contain caffeine, ivy, eyebright, or green tea. On the other hand, avoid creams that are supposed to bind moisture (in the form of hyaluronic acid) and plump up wrinkles. These care products do not cause swelling, but waste products can be difficult to transport away.
8. Skillful makeup
A thin eyeliner close to the lash line, which can be made a bit wider towards the outside, often hides swelling and bags under the eyes very well. Use light tones and white eyeliner, which visually enlarge the eyes, intensify the look, and ensure a fresher look.
However, if the eye is completely irritated and inflamed, you should rather refrain from using makeup.
