The skin is the most versatile and largest organ of the human body. Women, in particular, care devotedly for their skin, examining every pimple, every irregularity, or even every tiny wrinkle. Depending on your skin type, however, you should follow a few rules to avoid damaging your skin or causing it to age prematurely.
Do I have sensitive facial skin?
Sensitive facial skin is primarily recognized by the fact that it reacts more sensitively than other parts of the body. Both women and men can suffer from sensitive skin and skin irritation. Reasons for this include, among others:
- Increased environmental stress
- Air pollution or
- UV radiation.
The signals are often unmistakable: redness, flaking, dry skin, and even eczema become visible. If the skin is unprotected, it reacts and, in addition to a feeling of tightness, can also trigger itching.
What is the best way to care for my sensitive facial skin?
Cleansing is also very important for sensitive facial skin. To maintain the natural protective barrier of the skin, one should primarily use pH-neutral cleansers. If make-up is used, care should be taken to use gentle products. Soap-free and pH-skin-neutral cleansing products are suitable for removing foundation and the like.
Important: the skin should under no circumstances be further stressed, as this could cause it to dry out even more or appear irritated. Therefore, the right care products are advisable.
How can I pamper my skin?
In addition to proper care, paying attention to the moisture balance is crucial for an even and unstressed complexion. If you drink plenty of water throughout the day, this also has a positive effect on the skin. Additionally, moisturizing creams with dexpanthenol and madecassoside can strengthen our skin and help it regenerate on its own.
When can I start with the right care?
Often, people with sensitive facial skin recognize the signs too late. Only when the skin starts to itch and flake do they react. Therefore, the principle applies: regardless of whether it is summer or winter – facial skin requires consistent, attentive care all year round. But besides cleansing, one might also want to exfoliate their face or use a face mask. Is that a good idea?
Experts say yes, although one should look for a mild composition.
Mild cleansing
Sensitive facial skin that cannot tolerate soap can be cleaned with lukewarm water and baking soda. Add 3-4 teaspoons of baking soda to the water and use it to clean the face.
Mild exfoliation with almond or olive oil
The following mixture is suitable for a soothing exfoliant:
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 2 teaspoons of almond or olive oil
This mixture is well blended and then applied to the cleansed skin. Do not rub too hard; instead, distribute the mixture gently using light, circular motions. Avoid the mouth and eye areas thoroughly. Afterward, the mild exfoliant is rinsed off with plenty of lukewarm water, the facial skin is lightly patted dry with a clean cloth, and treated with a mild facial toner.
Secret tip for a mild facial toner
- 2 parts rose water
- 1 part distilled water
- 1 part alcohol (25%)
These ingredients are mixed well and carefully distributed on the face using a cotton pad. Finally, a suitable face cream with a high moisture content is advisable. Here, a cream with, for example, shea butter is highly recommended.
Anyone who also does not want to forgo a face mask once a week should check the ingredients when buying a suitable product. Look for preparations that do not contain extravagant substances that could disturb and irritate particularly sensitive skin. A good choice is a face mask with moisturizing functions.
