Why a quilt?
We all know this feeling. You come home from work, and there is clutter everywhere. Every family member is asked to clean up and tidy, but children in particular always find this difficult. But there is a relief: the quilt. It quickly covers up the used bed. It is decorative, an eye-catcher, and everything immediately looks much tidier. Thanks to its bright colors, children especially like it and are thus encouraged to join in.
The quilt today

The quilt in the past
The quilt has found its way from the American West into the world. The name is derived from the English term quilt = to stitch (quilted blanket). In this country, it is mainly used as a bedspread, although it can also serve as a decorative wall hanging. The quilt usually consists of three layers: the colorful top, a warming inner layer (e.g., made of fleece), and a fabric underside. The most well-known are certainly the so-called patchwork tops, which are assembled from individual pieces of fabric. The early American settlers are the originators of this method. They also used the work on the quilt in a large circle to exchange news and stories. But it also exists with a solid-colored top and with appliqués on a solid-colored background. Or made with a technique in which individual parts of the quilted pattern are stuffed with a filling. By the way, the three layers of fabric are sewn together with the smallest possible stitches (to prevent the inner fleece from slipping), either manually or with a machine, where the fabric must be guided freehand.
