Do you know this feeling? You lie awake in bed at night, mentally going through your daily worries and the days ahead? There is no talk of sleep, and the next day you feel exhausted. In this case, lavender is very suitable; it has a calming and even anti-anxiety effect. For it to be truly effective against anxiety, you should not just use a scented oil, but a high-quality essential lavender oil from the pharmacy. Also, never apply essential scented oil undiluted, as it can trigger allergies.
Lavender – the best health applications
Below are a few tips on how you can use lavender:
Tea – for good sleep
Ingredients:1 tsp dried lavender flowers (pharmacy), 250 ml boiling water
Pour the hot water over the flowers and let them steep for approx. 10 minutes. Then strain and enjoy. It is best to drink the tea in the evening before going to sleep, as it has a calming effect and thus ensures a good night's sleep.
Sugar – for good sleep
Ingredients:2 tbsp lavender flowers (pharmacy) and 8 tbsp sugar
Simply mix and store in a well-sealed container. Take half a teaspoon before going to sleep and let it melt slowly.
Bath – against stress
Ingredients:100 g dried lavender flowers (pharmacy), 1 L boiling water, possibly some heavy cream
Pour the water over the lavender flowers and let steep for approx. 15 minutes. Then strain and mix the infusion with the bath water. Additionally, some cream can be added here, which ensures smooth skin. You should bathe for up to 20 minutes and then only pat the skin dry carefully.
Massage – against tense muscles
Ingredients:2 tbsp avocado or almond oil, 2 drops essential lavender oil (health food store)
Mix the ingredients well and apply to the tense muscle area. The oils penetrate the skin into the tissue and increase blood circulation. The pleasant scent also provides additional relaxation.
Scent – for calming and relaxation
Ingredients: dried lavender flowers (pharmacy), a piece of fabric, a string
Spread out the piece of fabric and distribute the lavender flowers on it. Fold up the sides at the ends and tie them tightly. Distribute the scent sachets, e.g., in the bedroom. Every now and then, you can add a few drops of essential lavender oil (health food store) to the sachets so that the scent is refreshed. The scent has a calming and relaxing effect and thus promotes a good night's sleep.
