For mozzarella lovers, there is nothing better than enjoying the sliced cheese with tomatoes and basil. Sometimes, however, your eyes are bigger than your stomach, or the amount was simply miscalculated. But what do you do with the good cheese now? Of course, you can simply cover the cheese with some cling film or put it in a resealable box. Since mozzarella usually matures in a brine, you should not skip this step for longer storage. Why? The risk of the cheese drying out and becoming inedible would simply be a shame.

Storing mozzarella

Milk

If you are in a hurry, a liquid substitute is perfectly sufficient for a short time. Cover the mozzarella with milk in a plastic bowl and it will keep for another 2 days.

Brine

However, it would be better to use a brine. For the simpler version, you just take fresh, boiled water and, of course, salt. It would be better, however, to use 1/3 boiled water, 2/3 boiled whey, and 6% salt. In the brine, the cheese can now be stored well for up to 14 days. In most cases, however, mozzarella does not last longer than 2 – 4 days for cheese fans ?

Do not use water

If you only use water, the components of the cheese often transfer into the water. Important components in this case could be flavor, but also calcium and lactic acid. Result: a greasy film forms on the edge of the bowl.

Cutting mozzarella more easily

To be able to cut mozzarella into nice slices, place it in the freezer for about 10 minutes. Then it has a firmer consistency and can be divided more easily.

Extra tip: You get beautiful, even slices with a Egg slicer.
