Advent is a wonderful time: the Christmas lights brighten the darkness, the scent of baked apples and cookies fills the air, and Christmas decorations sparkle in the shop windows. All of this shortens the long wait for the Christ Child. An Advent stroll between chestnut stands and nativity scenes can be wonderfully relaxing. Iâd also like to enjoy Advent with my children and show them a few Christmas markets. But you donât always have to go straight to Vienna, because here in the Marchfeld there are several that are definitely worth visiting. Here are my favorites:
The most beautiful Advent markets in the Marchfeld
Advent market in Velm Götzendorf
The Advent market in Velm-Götzendorf brings that special mix of village magic and anticipation every year. Among lovingly decorated stalls, the scent of punch, fresh cookies, and warm delicacies fills the air. Regional exhibitors present handmade items, Christmas goods, and small gift ideas, while strings of lights transform the square into a little winter world. Music, cozy get-togethers, and the charming atmosphere make the Advent market a meeting place for young and old â ideal for immersing yourself in the Christmas season and leaving a little everyday hustle and bustle behind.
Extra tip: The paths on the Kellerberg are sometimes a bit more difficult with a stroller, especially when itâs busy. I recommend an all-terrain stroller or buggy; it makes things much easier. We managed well everywhere with our twin stroller.

Advent market at Marchegg Castle
An Advent market takes place every year in the rooms of the castle granary and in the park of Marchegg Castle. At this romantic Advent market, you can buy exquisite handcrafted works, regional specialties, or handmade gift ideas. Every year there is a lovely program for children, such as crafts and a dedicated childrenâs program. So the little ones certainly wonât get bored. As a highlight for the children, Nikolo (St. Nicholas) comes on 12/6. Of course, food and drink will also be provided, with many delicacies as well as punch and mulled wine.

Advent market at Schloss Hof
A very festive Advent market takes place every year at Schloss Hof. There are plenty of beautifully decorated stalls where savory and sweet delicacies from the kitchen and bakery can be enjoyed; mulled wine and punch are served to drink. For children, there are craft workshops, a nostalgic carousel and a train, an adventure playground, and a petting zoo.
Extra tip: The Advent market is spaciously laid out; we got through very well with the twin stroller, even though it is very busy here. There are toilets with changing tables almost everywhere. Our children really liked the nativity scene with the goats and sheep, though in the stables they had quite a lot of respect for the beautiful large horses. Personally, I liked this Advent market very much and Iâm already looking forward to the next visit!

Advent market at Eckartsau Castle
Eckartsau Castle is worth a visit in every season â the Habsburgsâ baroque hunting lodge simply has an incomparable atmosphere. But at Christmas, the castle shines with a very special glow once again. Here you are greeted by the aromas of delicacies, the sounds of regional music societies and choirs, as well as a feast for the eyes of Christmas-themed arts and crafts. You can be enchanted by floral impressions on the theme of âImperial Christmasâ and get into the Christmas spirit at this historic place. Those who wish can also take a guided tour through the castleâs private rooms and experience the history of the imperial familyâs last days in Austria before departing into exile. A beautiful Advent market takes place every year on the 2nd weekend of Advent in Deutsch-Wagram at the market square. With Christmas music, beautiful stalls, and various attractions, an afternoon becomes an atmospheric experience. Especially for children, there are always lovely attractions and a colorful program.

Christmas tree illumination in GĂ€nserndorf
In the district capital, the center of BahnstraĂe is transformed into a Christmas market. Punch and food stalls provide refreshments. You can find the program at www.gaenserndorf.at.
Around the 1st Sunday of Advent, the Christmas tree in GĂ€nserndorf is illuminated for the first time. Punch and a brass ensemble create the right atmosphere. This event takes place both in GĂ€nserndorf town and in GĂ€nserndorf SĂŒd.
With punch and mulled wine, you can admire the large, beautifully lit tree.

If the hustle and bustle has become too much and you need peace and quiet, you should seek it in nature: a guided winter hike in schlossORTH-Nationalpark provides just that.
