Earrings are a lovely thing – they adorn our ears and, besides, a woman can never have enough of them. Sometimes, however, you can't find the right pair, the color isn't quite right, or you don't want to spend money on new, chic earrings again. But you don't necessarily have to go without – homemade earrings are the ultimate eye-catcher and you can incorporate your own ideas. Plus, you save money and get to be quite creative. Surely not everyone has these earrings hanging from their ears.
What do you need to make your own earrings?
Actually, not much. In this case, I bought earring hooks, elastic craft cord, and head pins with a flat head at the craft store. For the visual highlight, I also needed Fimo (polymer clay) and glass beads. You can already make different earrings from these – you just have to let your imagination run wild.
Glass bead earrings
For the glass bead earrings, I set aside the desired glass beads, as well as the craft cord and the earring hooks. Take the desired length of craft cord, thread on a few glass beads, tie the cord securely, and simply cut off the ends with scissors. Just quickly attach the earring hooks – and your unique piece is finished.
Depending on your taste and choice of beads, you can combine different colors and bead sizes.
Fimo earrings
Fimo is similar to modeling clay. You can purchase the small blocks in many bright colors – the only difference: Fimo only hardens in the oven. If you mix two or more different Fimo colors together, you can achieve first-class marbling effects. In the picture, you can see two flat earrings. For these, I briefly kneaded black and white as well as red and white Fimo together, then formed a ball and pressed it flat with my fingers. For the black-red ball earrings, I used black and red Fimo, made balls of different sizes, and then placed these pieces on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Don't forget: use a sewing needle to make holes in the desired spots! For the flat Fimo earrings, a small hole at the edge is sufficient. For the Fimo balls, a hole must be pierced from top to bottom. After hardening, this is very difficult and could destroy the work. Bake the Fimo pieces at 110 degrees for about half an hour. Then let them cool down briefly. Caution: the unique Fimo pieces are very hot!
I attached the flat Fimo discs directly to the earring hooks. The balls were threaded onto a head pin and finished with a faceted glass bead before the earring hook was added.
As you can see, various earrings were created in a very short time. Material costs were approx. €20, time spent: 2 hours. The materials are enough for about 10 pairs of earrings – you can't get earrings more economically than this. Have fun making them.
