Clearing away and cleaning dishes is a tedious job and rarely something anyone enjoys. Therefore, one should be as efficient as possible here so that this task is completed quickly and one can turn to nicer things again:
Loading the dishwasher with a system
Often it is precisely the small things that make our lives easier and also help us save a little time. Whether you sort your clothes in the closet by color or hang your jackets neatly so that they are always within reach is up to you, but the fact is: those who think a little and plan ahead can truly save time.
The same applies to the dishwasher. For one thing, systematic loading not only brings order to the dishwasher, the dishes also get cleaner and you can save time and nerves. Cups, plates, and cutlery should have a fixed place, so that at some point you can grab the individual positions without looking closely and skillfully put them into the cupboard.

- It is best to place spoons, forks, and knives in the cutlery basket with the blades and sharp sides facing down. Firstly, the risk of injury is lower when emptying the dishwasher, and if you sort the cutlery in pairs, you can pick up several forks or knives at once with one grab and put them into the drawer.
- It is best to sort plates by size. This way, you can pull them out of the dishwasher with a single grab and move them into the cupboard.
- Even the manufacturers recommend: improved and orderly filling of dishwashers serves cleanliness and saves time.
What is actually not allowed in the dishwasher?
Almost every second household nowadays has a dishwasher. It saves time and even uses less water than washing by hand. However, very few people know what belongs in a dishwasher and what does not.
Expensive and, above all, sharp knives do not belong in the machine at all – neither do coated pans. Quality knives can become dull over time due to the water jet and even tarnish. Coated pans can also suffer damage: therefore, particularly sensitive goods should rather be washed by hand.
Silver cutlery also resents it if we put it in the dishwasher – however, it depends on how much silver content in the cutlery is contained. 925 silver can actually be washed in the dishwasher without hesitation, whereas old dowry with a proportional copper content will tarnish over time.
Hand-painted glasses and colored decor on plates can suffer over time. The patterns fade and the lead crystal becomes dull. Therefore, these things should also be washed by hand.
Basic facts: Safety and care start with loading the dishwasher. Sensitive items belong in the top rack, heavily soiled dishes go in the bottom rack. Why? In the lower area of the dishwasher, the water pressure and temperature are higher. Therefore, you should also place plastic items on the top. This reduces the risk of plastic dishes warping or deforming.
What else should you pay attention to?
Vessels should always be placed in the dishwasher with the opening facing down so that no water residues can accumulate there.
Furthermore, it is extremely important not to overload the machine completely. Otherwise, the machine will not be able to reach every corner of the cutlery, plates, and cups. The result is then stained and dirty dishes. Chaos also leads to an unsightly washing result, so everything should be sorted and placed precisely into the machine. This saves you from having to wash them again.
After washing, open the dishwasher and leave it open for a while so that the steam can escape and the dishes dry faster.
