Waking the children up in the morning, making breakfast, getting them ready for school, taking them to school, and then driving back home to lounge on the couch for a bit before doing the little bit of housework.
Many people have this or a similar idea of the everyday life of a housewife and mother. However, this is by no means the case, and reality has changed: today, many women fulfill three positions at once: housewife, mother, and employee or worker in a company.
Combining household and job
In order to reconcile all these private and professional requirements, often only one form of employment is possible: that of Side jobs.
By working an average of 20 to 25 hours, one has the opportunity to manage everyday life well and to balance children, husband, and work.
However, the variety of these marginal employment opportunities is limited. Usually, it is always the same industries that are looking for part-time help. The most popular of these are the following:
Gastronomy: Waiters, in particular, are increasingly in demand. In tourism and the hotel industry, it is primarily the peak times that cause a high demand for personnel. For a few hours a day, the demand skyrockets, and for the rest of the day, one employee is often sufficient.
Sales: It is the same in retail. During the week, very few customers go shopping because they are also working themselves. On the other hand, the demand is particularly high after work and on Saturdays. Both sales assistants and customer advisors are sought in this area.
Administration:Matters such as paperwork, organizational tasks, or scheduling appointments can be handled flexibly. If a task does not have to be finished immediately, it is sufficient if a part-time worker takes over the administration for a few hours a week. One reason why so many secretary jobs are advertised.
Facility Management:Employees involved in cleaning work almost exclusively have marginal contracts; exceptions are employees of large cleaning companies, which often specialize in the maintenance of companies themselves.
Childcare:People help each other where they can. Many mothers are therefore also active as childminders themselves. They take one or more children into their care several times a week and cook, play, and study with the little ones. It is also no problem if you have to look after your own child at the same time.
