Every housewife has surely done it half a million times:
- Peel potatoes
- Wash potatoes
- Put potatoes in a pot
- Cover potatoes with water
- A good pinch of salt on top
- Let potatoes boil until they are done
- Drain potato water
- Serve potatoes – Done!
So, now let's think and take a few steps back. Why? We pour the valuable potato water not simply into the drain, but keep it in the future. Why again?
Quite simply: in the potato water there are incredibly many vitamins, that simply disappear into the sewer forever. Yet you can use potato water for many things. The next time you drain it, simply catch the potato water, let it cool down, and store it in the refrigerator. There it is good for up to 3 days. But what can you do with it now?
Uses for potato water
- Adding a good splash of potato water gives sauces and soups a delicious note. Furthermore, the addition increases the nutritional content and the starch has a binding ability.
- Expensive fertilizer for flowers? Is also not necessary – because the vitamins in the potato water also taste good to green plants.
- Likewise, you can tackle skin rashes with the starchy water. Simply dab the skin areas with water – this soothes the skin.
- Rough hands? Simply soak your hands for 5-10 minutes in lukewarm potato water – then just dry them off. This makes the hands soft and supple.
- For weeds in gardens, people often like to reach for chemical agents. But that doesn't have to be: simply pour potato water on the weeds – that is non-toxic and lets weeds die.
- Pimples and blackheads are annoying – if you dab your skin regularly with potato water, the skin is optimally cleared and pimples become less frequent.

yes, I do that with potato water too!
or, when it has cooled down, drink it with a drop of oil.
does that also apply to water from boiled carrots?
