In fact, detergents, cleaning agents, and dish soap are used in much higher doses in practice than is generally necessary. Consequently, the consumption of cleaning agents is not only immensely high, but the environment is also burdened many times over. Even if you mean well, more cleaning agent does not mean more cleanliness. Overdosing only leads to a higher volume of chemicals, and wastewater is also extremely burdened. Thus, with the right dosage, not only can your wallet be spared, but also the environment.
Dosing cleaning agents better
You should always use dosing aids when measuring cleaning agents. These are usually the caps. Here, you should pay particular attention to the instructions for use and it is better to dose less than too much.
Unfortunately, cleaning agents often have openings that are far too large. To still be able to dose correctly, simply stick adhesive tape or masking tape in a cross shape, so that only a gap remains. This saves cleaning agent, and the environment will also thank you.
What types of dosing methods are there?
Surely everyone has noticed that different cleaning agents also offer different dosing solutions. There are the 'shot' methods or the cap, pump dispensers, or tabs. But how do the individual versions work?
The shot method
The shot method is often found with dish soap. However, a splash is not always enough, as this dosing method is highly inaccurate. Because the cleaning agent is often used for washing dishes, an exact dosage is difficult to determine during the washing process. With this method, incorrect dosing is the order of the day.
The cap
The cap can be found on almost every cleaning agent. However, as a dosing aid, it is a rather inaccurate tool. This is partly because the scales are difficult to see when filling the cap, and partly because too much momentum from the large bottle results in an excess of cleaning agent in the cleaning water. This excess cannot be saved, and your skin is also exposed to this cleaning water if you do not wear cleaning gloves. It is better to check more, work carefully, and return the excess to the cleaning bottle.
Dosing pump
The dosing pump is technically also referred to as a dispenser. They are often available in combination with hand soaps, but as a rule, they can also be purchased individually in stores to be used for other cleaning agents. Handling is simple: simply unscrew the pump and operate the lever until cleaning agent comes out. The dosage is usually accurate here, although the individual dosing pumps are not standardized, so you need custom-fit pumps for different products.
Measuring cup
Special measuring cups are included with some cleaning agents. The advantage is obvious: you can dose precisely and make the best use of the cleaning agent. Disadvantage: The measuring cup can tip over and leak or get lost.
Spray bottle
We often find the spray bottle with cleaning agents for the bathroom or glass cleaners. Here, you can make targeted doses and work effectively. The disadvantage, however, is the spray mist, which is increasingly inhaled. With disinfectants or caustic cleaning agents, you should therefore work carefully and wear a respirator mask if necessary.
Tabs
Tabs are often available for purchase in connection with washing machines and dishwashing detergents. Handling is child's play, and dosing is more than simple. However, if you want to deviate from the standard, halving the tabs is quite difficult. The tabs are individually wrapped, which is why they also produce quite a lot of waste. Furthermore, they are often slightly more expensive to purchase.
