Anyone who wants to drive in a nail should take these tips to heart, then (almost) nothing can go wrong:
Simply drive in a nail with cardboard
To drive a nail into the wall without bruising your fingers, you only need a little cardboard. First, drive the nail into the cardboard, then you can simply hold the cardboard and drive the nail into the wall. Once the nail is somewhat firm in the wall, you can tear off the cardboard and drive the nail all the way in.
Driving nails into wood
To prevent the wood from splintering, tap the tip of the nail with the hammer before driving it in. Large nails are easier to drive in if you oil or soap them beforehand! It also helps to rub them with lip balm beforehand. In principle, nails should always be driven in at a slight angle – if there are several nails next to each other, always alternate the angle.
