Grated chocolate is needed in many baking recipes. However, grating chocolate is usually time-consuming and doesn't always work very well. In this article, I would like to give you a few tips so that you don't have to miss out on your delicious chocolate cake:

Tools for grating chocolate

Grandma's potato grater is traditionally and frequently used – but the arduous work does not solve the problem of messy fingers. The Tupper Mahl-Chef is mentioned again and again. With this device, you simply place the piece of chocolate into the device, operate the crank, and you get excellent shavings in the collection tray. Tip: also usable for cheese, nuts, and potatoes.

Alternatively, food processors with various attachments are also suitable. In Sally's Shop, you can find very good, food processors tested by Sally with many attachments.

Household tips for easier chocolate grating

If you don't want to buy an additional device, try these tips:

Let the chocolate warm up and cut it

Let the chocolate sit at room temperature for a while, then use a sharp knife to cut fine strips along the longest side. These crumbly strips look like light sprinkles and look very nice on desserts and pastries.

Put chocolate in the freezer

To make chocolate easier to grate, put the bar in the freezer for approx. 1 hour. Because when it is really hard, you can grate it much better and your hands won't get dirty quite as quickly.
