Who doesn't enjoy buying beautiful things at a low price and sometimes doing good in the process? I love going to flea markets; you often find great things here that are sometimes no longer available in stores. Through my children, I discovered children's flea markets. It is a fantastic way to buy toys, books, or clothing. Here are my favorites that are held regularly in the Marchfeld region:

There is ample parking available in front of the hall. The Bernsteinhalle has restrooms (including changing facilities), and food and drinks are also provided. The Bernsteinhalle is also easily accessible with a stroller. However, it can sometimes get really crowded during peak times.

Flea market of the municipality in Deutsch-Wagram
You should set aside plenty of time for this flea market, as the selection is very large. There are several exhibitors here offering toys, books, and children's clothing. I find this flea market very nice because it is one of the few that takes place outdoors. I personally liked it very much, which is why it lands in 2nd place in my personal ranking. Attention: The flea market no longer takes place at the marketplace, but next to the Park & Ride facility at the Deutsch-Wagram train station!
Visitors
It pays to be early here, as parking spaces are taken quickly. Food and drinks are provided, as the small town café with a guest garden is adjacent. Restrooms are available in the small town café or at the Raika bank. The area is also accessible with a stroller, but it gets a bit tighter as the morning progresses due to the many visitors.
Exhibitors
If you want to exhibit your children's items here, you can do so with a binding registration; the event is free of charge. Beer garden sets are provided, but be careful, there is only a limited number available.

A really great flea market is held regularly by the Kinderfreunde in Gänserndorf. Here, the children themselves usually exhibit, and you get very good advice regarding toys. This flea market always takes place in the Volkshaus in Gänserndorf on Wiener Straße, and you can find a lot of toys, books, and clothing for babies and children here. I enjoyed this flea market with my children because it is very well-organized.

Hamstern in GroĂź Schweinbarth
At this second-hand market in the Meierhof in GroĂź Schweinbarth, you can find children's items of all kinds and for every age group: from clothing and newborn essentials to strollers, nursery equipment, and, of course, books and toys. You can shop here like in a store; the items are sorted by size and theme, and the price is located directly on the item.
This flea market is not a conventional flea market and takes place twice a year. The net proceeds benefit the children in GroĂź-Schweinbarth. Behind the 'Hamstern' (Hamster) idea is the non-political association "Gemeinsam Hamstern fĂĽr Kinder" (Hamstering Together for Children), whose activities are charitable.
Visitors
Food and drinks are also provided: A baby kitchen (for warming up water and baby food jars brought from home) is available for the little guests. Restrooms and changing facilities are available. For refreshments, there are sausages, drinks, and a large selection of cakes and pastries. The proceeds also benefit the children of GroĂź-Schweinbarth.
Exhibitors
If you want to sell well-preserved children's items but don't want to stand at a flea market yourself, this is the right place: The association handles the sales process. The price is attached directly to the item, and a 'hamster' (association member) will help you with labeling. Furthermore, it would be very nice if you also brought a pastry. After the flea market, from about 5 PM, you can pick up your proceeds and your unsold items. Anyone who does not want to take their things back can also donate them to the association.

Important tips for flea market visitors
I can still remember my first flea market visit very well. It was a great experience for me, and I bought quite a few things and realized what one should pay attention to. Over time, I have picked up a few tricks that make shopping at flea markets much more fun. Here are my tips for a pleasant flea market visit:
1. Small change
For a flea market visit, it is advantageous to bring plenty of small change. Many things cost very little, and the exhibitors are usually very happy if you can pay exactly with small change. Therefore, always exchange for small change or collect it in advance. Of course, you can also use a separate purse and put exactly the amount of money in it that you want to spend; it can very often happen that you lose track of your purchases and buy much more than you intended.
2. Bags and pouches
It is always great when you can find many bargains, but where do you put your newly acquired treasures? Many exhibitors already have bags and pouches to pack things in, but sometimes it is advisable to bring your own bags, pouches (preferably made of fabric), or carriers.
3. Get up early
It is usually worth visiting the flea market very early. Therefore, read carefully when the flea market starts and try to be there first thing in the morning. Sometimes there is still very little going on, and you can browse in peace. In my experience, it is usually busiest at 10 o'clock in the morning.
4. Haggling
At flea markets, it is always good to try to haggle. However, I mean that you shouldn't do it cheekily, but really appropriately. If the flea market is for a good cause, I personally find haggling inappropriate.
5. Visiting with children
For children, such a toy flea market is surely heaven on earth – and they want to take it home with them, sometimes completely. Therefore, explain in advance that you cannot buy everything, but that they are allowed to choose one thing. I know that with some children this works very difficultly, and every child is of course different. With my twins, however, it has always worked very well so far, and I now really enjoy going on bargain hunts at flea markets with them.
