Four-year-olds are often already very good at playing by themselves. They have a wonderful imagination and usually turn very simple things into a fun game. In addition, they naturally copy a lot from adults. With a birthday or Christmas just around the corner, I would like to give a few tips here on what you can use to bring great joy to 4-year-old children.
What should I give a child aged 4 and up?
Playmobil
This series is brilliant for children aged 4 and up. There is a lot from everyday life here, and children can use it to reenact many things. It encourages playing together and building many things. It is easy to find something nice with Playmobil, as the packaging always states exactly what is included, as well as the age recommendation. Sometimes you just have to be careful with very small parts; unfortunately, they get lost quickly.

Parlor games
At 4 years old, children can already understand and apply simple rules very well. There are many beautiful games for children aged 4 and up; take a look around in toy stores or online shops:

Puzzles
Many children love puzzles at this age. Be sure to pay attention to the age recommendation here. If no age is specified, it is best to check how large the puzzle pieces are and that there are not too many pieces, otherwise the children will be overwhelmed.

Balls for playing
Even when very small, children like Balls very much. Whether for throwing or kicking with their feet. Balls should not be missing in any child's room. There is a very large selection of balls: different colors, consistency, sizes, and types of sports. For small children, a colorful and soft ball is perfectly fine.
Craft supplies
Most children love to do crafts. and they proudly create their works of art. Here you can give children practical accessories: watercolors with brushes, coloring books with very thick colored pencils, wax crayons, finger paints, or children's scissors and colored paper.

Many children like to build and create things themselves. By now, there is already a large selection here. To name a few good examples: The classic Duplo is great here, where there are now not only the brick boxes but also boxes by theme. Another newer toy here is the Geomag, which our children, for example, like to use in kindergarten. Of course, wooden construction boxes are also a very good idea. Especially little boys love being able to screw around with tools.

Large vehicles
Large tractors with trailers, crane trucks, construction site vehicles, or large cars (especially with flashing lights!) are very popular with many toddlers. The more real they look, the better. Our son finds lights on the vehicles very important and loves to let the siren shine in a dark room.

Race track
Slowly, four-year-olds are also becoming interested in race tracks. The Darda race track is a good option as an entry point here, as the tracks are easy to put together and can withstand a lot. Unfortunately, the cars don't last as long as they used to, but the 'motor' can be bought separately.

Accessories for the doll
For little doll moms and dads, the accessories are becoming increasingly important; diaper bags with all the important utensils are becoming indispensable. The diapers are changed, as is the dolls' clothing.

Stuffed animals for children
stuffed animals are still very popular and are a nice gift for children. There is such a large selection of beautiful stuffed animals here that I understand when they are collected. Slowly, there are also stuffed animals that the children may have seen on television. Here, classics like Winnie the Pooh, Paw Patrol, or Star Wars are great partners in the children's room.
Play sand for children
Play sand for children is ideal for playing for hours. Here, things are built, kneaded, and simply held in the hands. The sand sticks together more than normal sand, and you can create beautiful things here. Touch it, I find it somehow calming :-).
Balance bikes
The stroller is becoming less and less interesting, and the children want to ride their bikes just like their parents. Here, it is a very nice idea to give the children a balance bike. In my experience, children learn to ride a bike faster if they have zoomed around with a balance bike beforehand.
Our children are also very fascinated when older children drive by with their scooter.

Tip Toi
The first electronic toy for children. This audio-digital learning system is great for children. First, you buy a starter set, which includes a pen and a book. With the pen, the child can tap on dots in the book, and it will sing or read aloud, or appropriate sounds will play. In this series, there are books on almost all topics, so there is definitely something for everyone.
Books
Since I am a big book fan, there always have to be books, no matter how old the children get. With us, you can now already notice the influence a little bit, and they like stories that they also see on television/DVD.
Here, the topics range from 'Thomas and Friends' to 'Bob the Builder' (the books have small games at the end, which are very well received!), Winnie the Pooh, to stories that our children are very interested in (birthday, going to sleep, swapping potty for diapers, etc.)
