Red wine stains are stubborn – unfortunately. But there are always a few ways to remove the stains without using chemicals. We have collected a nice list here that should be tried before throwing away your favorite piece of clothing.
Very important first: fresh stains can usually be removed better. Older stains are often harder to treat.
How do you remove a fresh red wine stain?
Salt
For a fresh red wine stain on a non-washable textile you can use table salt very well. The salt partially absorbs the wine and breaks down certain chemical compounds in the dye. Result: the stain becomes lighter and is no longer as noticeable.
Milk
For clothing, you should take off the shirt or pants immediately and soak the still damp area in Milk . Then the clothing is put in the washing machine and washed with mild detergent.
Treat wine stains on the carpet with hot milk and then wash away with warm soapy water.
Info: The relatively strong lactic acid draws the dyes of the red wine out of the textile fibers
White wine
Fight red wine with white wine. According to several recommendations, this is the ideal tip. However, you don't have to raid the wine cellar for this. The cheap version from a carton is also sufficient. Simply soak the stain with white wine. For several pieces of clothing, they can also be put in a bucket and soaked with plenty of white wine. Then the laundry is washed.
Sparkling wine
Sparkling wine can also fight against a red wine stain. As with white wine, treat the stain with it and then wash as usual.
How do you get rid of older red wine stains?
Lemon juice and salt
Lemon juice and salt can work wonders for older stains. Simply moisten the stain with the juice and then sprinkle with salt. Now let it soak in and then wash normally. Caution: for delicate textiles, the reaction of the mixture should be tested beforehand on an inconspicuous area.
ammonia solution
If the stain is already older, then treat with warm soapy water and a little ammonia solution Or put shaving foam from the tube on the stain, let it soak in and then rinse well.
Aspirin
Aspirin helps not only against the headache from a hangover from too much red wine. Dissolve a tablet of aspirin in a little water and apply this mixture to the stain. Let it soak for 10 minutes and then brush off with a clothes brush. Then wash as usual – the stain is gone!
Sun
Bleaching is a very old home remedy. You hang the ruined piece of clothing or tablecloth while still wet on the clothesline in the bright Sun. The sun practically pulls the dyes out of the textiles. Also works excellently for baby clothes when they have been extensively splattered with tomato and carrot puree.
Glass cleaner
Did red wine end up on the good white carpet at the last party? Here, too, you can tackle the stain with a trick: simply soak the red wine stain with colorless glass cleaner, let it soak in and then rub with clear water. After drying, the stain has disappeared.
Shaving foam
Red wine stains on furniture also don't have to be hidden with blankets and pillows. Simply spray the stain with some shaving foam, let it soak in briefly and then wash the treated area well.
Extra tip: All tips are also applicable to red berry or juice stains.
