Windshield wipers are exposed to all weather conditions and suffer over time. However, you don't always have to replace everything right away. Try these tips first:
Cleaning for windshield wipers
Sandpaper
Often you don't have to replace the windshield wipers on your car immediately; sometimes it is enough to carefully rub the edges several times with fine sandpaper. Afterwards, wipe the wipers thoroughly with a damp cloth, and you will have a clear view again!
If you don't know which sandpaper with which grit is ideal: the 500-1000 grit is sufficient. However, you should proceed very carefully and not rub the windshield wipers aggressively – you won't be doing the wipers any favors, but rather achieving the opposite and will end up having to buy completely new windshield wipers.
Hair shampoo
If you don't have any sandpaper, you can also clean your windshield wipers optimally with a little hair shampoo. This way, you can easily remove grease and dirt deposits from the wipers and condition the rubber.
Soapy water
But also Soapy water, a good household cloth, and a little time achieve good results. Simply soak the cloth in soapy water, wring it out well, and run it along the rubber blades until no more black streaks are visible. Then clean the windshield wipers with a little lemon juice. Done.
However, after a certain age, neither cleaning nor sanding is enough. The rubber of the windshield wipers simply becomes hard due to rain and weather and must be replaced. As a rule, you need a new set every 1-2 years.
