Snacks for children's birthday parties: Sticks

A children's birthday party is usually a big event for the kids. There is a delicious cake, presents, and plenty of friends and relatives to play with. But in between, they also need to eat something, only time is short for the little heroes. That's why here are a few tips on how to prepare suitable snacks for the little birthday children that can be eaten quickly and easily:

Ideas and recipes for food at a children's birthday party

Sticks

Snacks for children's birthday parties: Sticks

These are very popular snacks with children. The sticks are available in supermarkets in many colors and shapes. I used colorful sticks that have hearts, spades, diamonds, and clubs at the tip. Now you can chop up vegetables, fruit, sausage, cheese, and much more for the little party guests and skewer them.

Red-Yellow-Green Sticks

Shopping list:

  • Extrawurst
  • Butterkäse cheese
  • Pickles

Instructions:

For my sticks, I cut Extrawurst sausage, Butterkäse cheese and pickles into small cubes and skewered them in the following order: always the sausage first, then the cheese and finally the pickle.

Tomato-Mozzarella Sticks

For these sticks, use small cherry tomatoes and cut the mozzarella into small cubes. It is best to always skewer the cherry tomato first and then the mozzarella. If you like, you can also add a basil leaf before the mozzarella. In my experience, children usually take that off.

Extra tip: Spread a little green pesto on the mozzarella – it tastes delicious. But it will certainly be viewed skeptically by children, so it's better to prepare it separately for the adults.

Extra tip: Arrange the sticks nicely, e.g., on a Party Mushroom nicely arrange.

Finger food

At a children's birthday party, the kids are like they're energized; they want to play with everyone and every toy, so there's usually little time for eating. That's why finger food is very suitable for a birthday party. Here are a few ideas for a finger food buffet:

Small meat patties

Halloween: Meat patty spiders and fly agarics made of tomatoes and mozzarella

The meat patties can be prepared wonderfully the night before. For dinner, just put them in the microwave or serve them cold.

Recipe for 4 adult portions:

  • 1 bread roll from the day before
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove of garlic, pressed through a garlic press
  • 1/2 bunch of parsley, chopped
  • 400 g mixed minced meat
  • 1 egg
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika powder
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • Oil for frying
Soak the bread roll in 1/4 lukewarm water, squeeze it out well, and put it in a bowl with all the ingredients. Knead with your hands until all ingredients have combined into a smooth dough. Let the dough rest for 5-10 minutes. With moistened hands, form small meat patties and fry them in a pan with oil over medium heat for approx. 5 minutes on each side until crispy.
Extra tip: Decorate the meat patties like spiders: use carrot sticks as legs and attach eyes with mayonnaise.

Small schnitzels/nuggets

Breaded schnitzel

The schnitzels can also be prepared the night before for the party; for the children, simply warm the portions in the microwave or serve them cold.

Recipe for 4 adult portions:

  •  4 chicken schnitzels
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • approx. 2 tbsp flour
  • approx. 10 tbsp breadcrumbs
  • 2 eggs
  • Oil for frying
  • 2 organic lemons
Cut the schnitzels into small pieces, rinse with cold water and pat dry, flatten slightly with a meat mallet or a heavy pan, then salt and pepper on both sides.
Put the flour on one plate and the breadcrumbs on a second. Crack the eggs into a deep plate or an oblong bowl and whisk lightly with a fork. Turn the schnitzels first in flour, then in egg, and finally in the breadcrumbs. Press the crumbs down well.
Heat the oil in a pan and fry the schnitzels for approx. 8-10 minutes on both sides until golden brown. Never put a lid on while frying, otherwise the breading will come off. Let them drain well on a plate with kitchen paper.
Extra tip: Do not cover the schnitzels to keep them warm, otherwise the breading will come off.

Pizza swirls

Pizza Faces

For the children's birthday party, prepare the pizza rolls in the morning so that you only have to turn on the oven in the late afternoon. The pizza rolls are quick to prepare and the children can hold them well in their hands.

  • 1 ready-made pizza dough (refrigerated section)
  • 1 can strained tomatoes
  • 100 g ham and/or salami
  • 1 ball of mozzarella, grated, or grated pizza cheese
  • 1 can corn
  • Pizza seasoning
  • parchment paper

Spread the tomato sauce on the pizza dough. Distribute ham, salami, cheese, corn, or other ingredients on top. Then roll up the dough from the wide side into a roulade. Now use a sharp knife to cut off slices about 3 cm thick and place them on a baking tray lined with baking paper. If a few rolls fall apart, simply stick them back together. Always dust the knife and the work surface well with flour. The rolls are easiest to cut if you put the topped dough in the freezer for about 45 minutes. Bake the rolls in the oven at 180° for about 10 minutes.

The pizza rolls can also be topped very well with other ingredients. For example, if you want a vegetarian version, you should chop the vegetables finely and let them drain well. Any other cheese such as Gorgonzola or feta can also be used. Just don't use too much topping, otherwise the rolls will fall apart.

Extra tip: Do not use aluminum foil for the baking tray for the pizza rolls, as they will stick.

Variation: Decorate the pizza as small pizza faces: zucchini as a mouth, corn as hair, etc.

Sausages with shake-fries

Halloween: Mummy sausages

Shopping list:

  • Frankfurter sausages
  • 1 kg potatoes
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Salt

Preparation:

Preheat the oven to 250°, meanwhile wash the potatoes thoroughly and halve them unpeeled. Now cut the potatoes into approx. 1 cm wide sticks (like French fries). Then shake the potato sticks well with the oil and 1 tsp salt in a bowl so that all ingredients mix well. Line the baking tray with baking paper and spread the shake-fries on it. Bake the shake-fries at 250° or 220° with convection in the middle of the oven for approx. 25 minutes.

In the meantime, boil the sausages in hot water for a few minutes.

Admittedly, the fries are a bit more elaborate, but much healthier than ready-made products.

Variations for the sausages:

Octopus sausages: To do this, cut the sausages in half and make crosswise cuts at the ends of each piece – but be careful not to cut all the way through. Fry the sausages in a pan with a little oil or bake them in the oven. The ends will curl outwards, making them look like octopuses.

Mummy sausages: Wrap the sausages in puff pastry and finish baking in the oven.
