Books are my passion and I hope that I set a good example for my children and that they adopt this. Reading aloud is not only fun but is proven to be good for a child's development. That's why I'm always on the lookout for beautiful children's books. Here, I would like to introduce you to a successful children's book by Josefine Merkatz, the daughter of Karl Merkatz:
Fritzi's Adventures in the Vegetable Garden by Josefine Merkatz
Fritzi is a little boy who wants to help his sick grandmother by getting ingredients for a delicious vegetable soup from her vegetable garden. Once in the garden, he is completely overwhelmed because the vegetables have grown rapidly and he can no longer identify them. But then comes Erwin, the garden snail, who shows him her world with a magic trick and what it's like to be so small and afraid of many things, such as a big crow. Fritzi gets to know many animals and, along the way, the types of vegetables. For those who are now curious about whether the crow gets a delicious dinner or whether grandmother gets the right vegetables for her soup, I advise you to read the book and be surprised.
Our reading experience
Josefine Merkatz has been known for years for her enchanting puppet theater and has now published her first children's picture book in January 2013. Fritzi's Adventures in the Vegetable Garden was published by G&G Verlag. The book is quite enchantingly illustrated, the texts are easy to read, and the story is ideal for toddlers. As a mother, I like the many details: for example, at the beginning of the book, there is a double page with lovingly drawn fruit, vegetables, and animals. You can playfully organize little guessing games with the children here. Furthermore, there is a little spider in the title of the children's book that wants to be found on every page.
Wonderful for my children, they were very eager to search. In the course of the story, the children learn about different vegetables in a playful way, how and where they grow, and what they look like. Furthermore, they also get to know the animals that play an important role in the vegetable garden. In the exciting part with the crow, the children see that you don't just have to hide, for example, but can also defend yourself. At the end of the story, there is also a recipe for a vegetable soup, which is also written in a child-friendly way. At the end, I asked my four-year-old twins what they liked best; my son said the story with the crow, and my daughter liked searching for the vegetables best.
