Every child learns from an early age that fruit and vegetables are healthy. While young children may not be as keen on vegetables, there is a better chance of success with fruit due to its sweet taste. But why is fruit healthy and so important for our immune system?
Fruit and vegetables contain a true range of vitamins and minerals. However, how many vitamins and minerals are actually in fruit or vegetables depends on the variety.
Do not leave fruit in water for too long
Fruit should never be left in water for too long, as this leaches out the vitamins and also impairs the taste.
Vital substance fruit
An apple for example, can cover a person's entire daily vitamin C requirement. But that's not all the apple can do for your health: dietary fiber promotes digestion, magnesium strengthens bones and teeth, potassium supplies muscles and nerves, and vitamin A strengthens our eyesight. Seen in this light, an inconspicuous apple is an extremely great source of vitamins.
But the Banana also has a lot to offer. It not only tastes good to children, but its mixture of carbohydrates and minerals also ensures a special sense of well-being. Carbohydrates provide energy and stop hunger. Just like the apple, the banana also contains an incredible amount of potassium and magnesium, which have a positive influence on the muscles and nerves. An ideal snack for in between.
Strawberries are true power fruits. 100g of strawberries already contain more vitamin C than an orange or lemon. In addition to vitamin B, the small red fruits also contain folic acid, which is very important for cell growth and blood formation. The trace element manganese, which stimulates the metabolism, as well as plenty of calcium, potassium, phosphorus and iron are also contained in strawberries. Simply a gigantic vitamin bomb.
Whether cherry cake, cherry dessert or a delicious ice cream topping made from Cherries – hardly any other type of fruit seems to be as versatile as this small stone fruit. Cherries provide the organism with a rich amount of vitamins and minerals and also have an incredible number of positive effects. They swell up in the intestine and thus boost digestion. They have a diuretic effect and thus stimulate the circulation of the liver and kidneys. In addition, the red fruits are effective against gout, lower uric acid levels and contain just 60kcal per 100g. Truly healthy and delicious – our little cherries.
What is the job of vitamins?
Every vitamin fulfills different criteria – therefore it is also important to supply yourself with different vitamins every day in order to remain healthy and vital.
The Vitamin A for example, offers all-round protection for the skin and mucous membranes. It enables vision in twilight and supports our eyesight. Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6 and B12 are important for energy production, help build nerve functions and regulate the metabolism.
Vitamin C on the other hand, is important for the production of connective tissue, cartilage, bones and also teeth. It prevents the arteries from calcifying and also strengthens the immune system. Vitamin D helps the body to ideally absorb and utilize calcium, Vitamin E protects the cells from free radicals, Vitamin K is essential for strengthening bones and Magnesium supports the muscles and nerves.
Iron binds oxygen to our red blood cells and thus enables smooth transport in the body, pantothenic acid is important for mucous membranes, skin and hair, folic acid regulates cell division and potassium keeps our acid-base balance in check.
So while we eat, an incredible number of processes take place in our body. As a result, all these vitamins and minerals ensure that we stay healthy and that a vital life is secured. Therefore, eat enough fruit and vegetables every day so that your body can also take care of you.
