Whether it's a refrigerator or a washing machine, a television or a dishwasher: in most Austrian households, many large electronic appliances are in daily use and therefore consume vast amounts of energy. With rising electricity prices, their use is becoming expensive for most families, which is why it's time to save!
Energy labels
With the introduction of the Energy labels in Europe, the topic of saving electricity was brought to the attention of citizens more clearly. The labels indicate the energy consumption of electrical appliances and help them to reduce costs in the long term and save money for the household budget. If you still have outdated appliances at home, we therefore advise you to replace them with new ones in the long term. It is not actually more expensive if, for example, you want to buy a new washing machine, because the costs pay for themselves in just a short time due to the lower power consumption.
5 electricity saving tips
Saving tip 1
Once you have replaced your power-hungry household appliances with energy-saving ones, you should not rest on the fact that they consume less energy and you are saving money anyway. If you take care to only turn them on when they are completely full during use, costs can be reduced even further.
attention to only turning them on when they are completely full, costs can be reduced even further.
Saving tip 2
If you are buying a new washing machine (we bought our last washing machine on quelle.at) and put it into operation at home, we recommend that you choose a gentle wash cycle. Modern appliances are designed nowadays to manage with less water while still getting the laundry clean. If you avoid hot washes (60 or 90 degrees), you will save electricity and water immediately.
Saving tip 3
Appliances like the television are usually switched on 24 hours a day, even when they are not being used. Although it is in standby mode, it still consumes energy. To relieve the household budget, it is definitely recommended to disconnect all small electrical appliances (including TV and PC, scanner and printer) from the circuit using a toggle switch when they are not in use.
Saving tip 4
The situation is similar with the refrigerator and freezer – both appliances are usually set much too cold and therefore consume unnecessarily large amounts of energy. In fact, neither needs to run at the highest setting to keep food cold and thus preserve it or even freeze it long-term. Often, one of the lower settings (1 or 2) is enough to achieve the desired effect.
Saving tip 5
Although classic light bulbs are no longer manufactured, they can still be purchased. Even if they are cheaper to buy than energy-saving lamps, we advise against buying them. The fact is that they consume far more electricity and are also not as durable. If you replace all light bulbs with energy-saving LED lamps, this will be clearly noticeable on your next bill!

I would just like to underline the tips. Regardless of energy efficiency, you can reduce electricity consumption by "thinking". What is the point, for example, of refrigerators in the basement where beer is stored? You could also store it in the garage. Or freezers where hundreds of food items are stored that you can buy on almost every corner.
