For many cakes, the cake base needs to be halved once or even twice and filled. But how does that work without it getting crooked or everything falling apart? Do I need special utensils? Here is a simple and cheap tip on how to halve your cake horizontally:

It works with a simple thread!

When you watch chefs on TV halving a cake base, you might get enthusiastic. They handle a large bread knife so quickly and skillfully that within a few moments, one cake base becomes two halves.

Admittedly:even if we housewives are quite skillful – we sometimes don't have that much routine in this regard. Therefore, we occasionally enjoy our own tricks that make life easier for us.

Instructions for halving a cake with thread

First, you should let the cake base cool down very well.Cut off a large piece of string – make sure that the thread fits around the cake base at least once and you can still grab the ends. Now place the thread exactly where you want to halve the base. Now guide the ends over each other and carefully pull on both ends of the string until you have halved the base. It couldn't be easier! Finally, you can fill and process your cake as you wish. Have fun baking!

For those for whom this doesn't quite work either, it might be better to buy a cake slicer.
