Household tips - Broccoli

Broccoli is a healthy and delicious side dish. Admittedly, early in my cooking career, I only ever used the frozen version because it seemed easier to me. After some research, I realized that broccoli is not that difficult to prepare. Here I have many simple tips for tasty broccoli:

Preparing broccoli

Household tips - BroccoliCut the broccoli into smaller pieces. To do this, simply place it on a cutting board and cut off the small florets around the stalk. Also, remove any brown or unsightly spots with a knife. Now rinse the broccoli with clear water. Bring water to a boil in a large pot and season it. I like to use a bouillon cube or Vegeta, but a pinch of salt is also enough. Depending on how soft you want the broccoli to be, 5 – 12 minutes is sufficient. I like it firm, but not too crunchy, and I cook it for 7-8 minutes. I don't like it when it's still too hard. Then pour it into a colander and let the broccoli drain.

Extra tip:Rinse the broccoli with very cold water shortly after cooking; this preserves its beautiful green color.

Avoid broccoli smell in the kitchen

Broccoli is healthy, but the smell is unfortunately annoying. To avoid it, add a slice of bread to the pot.

Extra tip:Never fry or steam broccoli in fat, as this makes it tough.

Use the whole broccoli

The sticks of Broccoli don't throw away immediately, you can eat them as Side Dish if you peel them very thinly and cut them into small pieces. Then cook the stalks for about 3 minutes longer than the florets.

Another possibility is to use the stalks for soup garnishes to use, or to puree and eat as Cream soup.
