Anyone who thinks of the little R2D2 from Star Wars when they hear the word Household robots is mistaken. Household robots do not exist in this form, but they can actually already be found in many households. By definition, robots are machines that perform tasks according to programming. This also includes dishwashers, washing machines, and tumble dryers in the household. The direct term household robot is understood more as a device that is already used in various designs in other service areas. It either helps people who can no longer perform this activity themselves or is used in hard-to-reach places. There are now robots for various areas of activity:

  • Robot vacuum cleaners
  • Mopping robot
  • Window-cleaning robot
  • Lawn-mowing robot
  • Surveillance robot
  • Care robot

In the household or for use around the house, the two robots for vacuuming and lawn mowing are the best known. As a vacuum cleaner, it is used especially when larger areas are to be cleaned without a person having to be assigned to do so. In the household, robot vacuum cleaners are currently the only invention in the field of robots. This is mainly because the coordination of seeing and working is very difficult and even takes humans six to eight years to learn.

Household robots as small help and support

A household robot is used especially as a vacuum cleaner. As a flat, round disc, it moves over the carpet or carpeted floor in a sensor-controlled manner and diligently sucks up everything it comes across. But as with all electrical appliances, there are differences in the individual designs, and every interested party should inform themselves thoroughly beforehand. As a rule, the vacuum cleaner can work alone, and some can be programmed to start automatically without a person starting them. The flat design allows it to drive under beds and sofas and pick up dirt there. It also recognizes obstacles and stairs and then turns around quickly. After use, it is connected to the charging station and thus refuels with new energy for the next use.

Different household robots

In addition to the robot vacuum cleaner, there is also a mopping robot. This works with one of the commercially available dust cloths, for example from Swiffer, or with a normal dust cloth. It cleans sensitive floors such as parquet or laminate with it. However, most versions are in the field of robot vacuum cleaners. These work differently and can therefore be used in different ways. The spatial conditions are a problem for some vacuum robots, as the grain of a carpet can prevent an exact path. It is best to inform yourself thoroughly about test reports or similar before buying.

  1. In my opinion, mopping robots are more useful than one might think. I own the Moneual Me770 myself, which I finally bought (after some compromises and discussions with my wife ?).
    A very clear advantage: Since then, we have to invest much less time in cleaning and mopping! Even if the investment doesn't appeal to everyone, I think such cleaning devils are a considerable relief. We simply switch it on at night and find the apartment sparkling clean in the morning – it switches on and off automatically and cleans very quietly.
    I think such an expenditure of over €500 clearly doesn't appeal to everyone, but there are also good, cheaper variants.
