Schönbrunn Zoo provides a wonderful day with numerous experiences. A special detail here is how old buildings have been combined with new ones or renovated, and the animals are housed in a species-appropriate manner. There are various enclosures here, such as the monkey house, bird house, desert house, or the rainforest house.
The rainforest house is modeled on the rainforest of Southeast Asia, and many animals fly around freely here in a natural setting, which can be a challenge for some in the bat grotto. With elaborate technology and special effects, a tropical thunderstorm is recreated here.
The aquarium house should definitely be visited, as it is the largest aquarium with 80,000 liters of salt water. Here, a massive living coral reef as well as hundreds of fish can be marveled at.
There is always new offspring at Schönbrunn Zoo, such as the little elephant girl Iqhwa or the little panda bear.

You shouldn't miss this highlight when visiting Vienna: The Vienna Prater offers many attractions for young and old. The Ferris wheel was built in 1897 and is the landmark of the Prater.
Children won't want to get out of the Monza children's motorway, the children's autodrom, or the children's railway. For the 'older' children, there is go-karting, Tagada, or roller coasters. Anyone who is free from giddiness, not afraid of heights, AND has a strong stomach should not miss attractions like Turbo Booster, Black Mamba, or Boomerang.
Anyone who wants to get an idea of the Prater first, or simply doesn't want to walk, should take a ride on the Liliputbahn. Children especially enjoy this ride through the park and the subsequent park.
Of course, the Vienna Prater also takes care of your physical well-being. A visit to the Schweizerhaus should not be missing here. The Schweizerhaus is known for its unique pork knuckles, potato pancakes, and Budweiser beer. Be sure to reserve a table in good time; it is usually packed in good weather. With children, Kolarik's Luftburg right next door is recommended, as there is a large playground for the children here. Anyone who doesn't have time and would rather eat on the go will find delicious snacks at almost every corner in the Prater, such as corn on the cob or Langos, as well as cotton candy for snacking.

Danube Island

The water playground on the Danube Island should definitely be visited with children. This can be reached by subway line U1; get off at the Donauinsel station and walk about 7 minutes downstream.
On about 5,000 square meters, children can splash, dam water, play, and experiment to their heart's content. For very small children, there is a fenced-off play area with specially assembled wooden play equipment. The area is equipped with toilets and showers.
Also on the Danube Island, right by the Reichsbrücke below the lighthouse, you will find the Sunken City. Here you can spend beautiful summer days with sports on the water. In addition to pedal boats and electric boats, which are available until midnight, you can also try stand-up paddling. Numerous restaurants, as well as bars and clubs, provide for your physical well-being. Strolling along the Danube between the venues is a bit like being on vacation in southern countries.

The Donaupark in Vienna is a true leisure paradise for children that costs almost nothing. Above all, the playground is a dream for toddlers and older children alike. The playground consists of 2 large areas that are connected by a bridge and are completely fenced in.
There is also a trampoline, skateboard facility, tennis court, and chess fields here. In the warm season, the Papstwiese invites you for a picnic or a game of soccer.
The park is beautifully landscaped and also accessible with a stroller. A ride on the Liliputbahn is a must. During the ride, you can get a very good look at the whole area and also get off at certain points.
There are also several lakes in the park where swans and ducks can be found. If you like, you can bring old bread and feed the animals.
For refreshment, a visit to the Danube Tower is recommended. At a lofty height, there is a restaurant and a coffee house where you can fortify yourself with fine Viennese cuisine.

Natural History Museum

This museum is a must-see. With around 30 million collection objects (!), it is one of the most important natural history museums in the world. Some animals, like the huge mammoth, can even be touched. The animals in the showrooms are exhibited true to detail and provided with a lot of additional information. The museum offers guided tours and events, and also has special exhibitions again and again.
The tour through this historic building is a real pleasure. The showrooms are also accessible with a stroller, and there are always seats for children. For those who have become hungry, the café & restaurant in the Natural History Museum offers national and international snacks, as well as traditional pastries and coffee specialties.

Technical Museum

This museum is ideal for children (and curious adults). Here, lots of experiments can be started between historical objects. Children can touch things, engage with them, and try them out. Children are guaranteed not to get bored here. On an area of 22,000 m², great insights into the world of technology are offered. It has many, partly quite large, exhibition models, such as locomotives, airplanes, cable cars, or cars. Also impressive is one of the largest collections of historical musical instruments in the Technical Museum. Anyone who wants to can organize a puzzle rally in the museum; information on this is available when purchasing tickets. There are always special exhibitions in the museum; these can be found on the website.
The building alone is impressive; the rooms are all accessible with a stroller, and elevators are available. Furthermore, there are seats everywhere if the children get tired. A café is available in the Technical Museum for refreshment.

During a city trip to Vienna, it is even possible to take a hiking day. The Vienna Woods right by Vienna invite you to hike, cycle, or go for a walk. The well-marked hiking trails lead through the magnificent nature and are a welcome change after a sightseeing tour in the city.
For children, there are always beautiful playgrounds to linger and romp around in. The paths are often also passable with a stroller.
Anyone who would rather take a spin on a mountain bike will get their money's worth, as the routes offer attractive challenges.
Extra tip:Anyone who feels like a walk in the woods after visiting the city should drive to the Schwarzenbergpark in Vienna's 17th district; this leads into the Vienna Woods and has beautiful playgrounds for children. The paths are easy to navigate with a stroller. Next to the paths is a small stream – so pack rubber boots.

House of the Sea

In the middle of Vienna, in a flak tower, is the House of the Sea. Here, more than 10,000 animals can be observed on over 4,000 m². In the terrarium department, you can see poisonous and giant snakes, crocodiles, and lizards. The biggest attractions are the large aquariums with the sharks or the tropical house with the crocodile park and the free-flying birds. In the freshwater department, there are also the infamous piranhas.
The animals are located on several floors, and unfortunately, you have to take the elevator again and again with a stroller, which can be a bit tedious on busy days.

Conclusion
Vienna is a really great city that offers a lot of variety and also has great excursion destinations for children. We have already tested all these excursion destinations and are thrilled. We have already visited some of these destinations several times, and I think these were not the last visits this time either.
