Being a king or queen for once is great fun for children. You don't even have to buy extra crowns for this, because the children can make them themselves. It's even more fun to play with their own creations, which are of course unique. We got this great idea from our kindergarten teacher, because here the children are allowed to make a crown for their birthday. Our children are always very proud of the crowns and love to play with them at home again and again. Here are the instructions for the crowns:
Making a paper crown with children
What you’ll need:
- colored construction paper
- possibly a pencil
- Scissors
- for decoration: stickers, shapes made of foil, foam, beads, glitter stones, etc.
- possibly Watercolors or finger paints
- possibly Paintbrush
- possibly Glitter
- Glue
- Stapler
Instructions:
If the children are still small, cut the crown out of the construction paper. The length of the crown should correspond to the child's head circumference (as with caps and hats). For our children, a strip of 65 cm was enough. It is best to make the ends a little narrower and cut the middle into a small point. If you are skilled, you can of course also cut spikes. It has proven useful here to pre-draw the intended shape with a pencil.
Now it's the children's turn: the crowns can be decorated beautifully and colorfully. Here, the children can decorate the crown colorfully with the provided stickers and shapes made of foil and foam.
If the children are still small and are not allowed to work with glue, then it is a nice variation if the children paint. To do this, let the children paint a picture with watercolors or finger paints on another sheet of paper. Sprinkle this with glitter while it is still damp and let it dry. Then, for example, cut out a square and attach it to the crown with glue.
Once the artwork is finished, it should dry well – preferably overnight. The next day, place the crown on the child's head and measure the length. Fix the two ends with a stapler and shorten if necessary.
