Broom

Even though you really ought to know it: a broom is better stored with the brush head facing upward. If the broom is left standing on its head, the bristles will not exactly thank you. Over time, the individual bristles give way, bend, and make the broom unusable. You can no longer remove leaves or other debris with it. Instead, cleaning becomes a real effort. With this tip, you can straighten them up again:

Boiling water

Briefly hold the bristles in almost boiling water, or hold them over a vigorously boiling pot. The steam also straightens the bristles.

Alum solution

Alum, also known as potassium aluminum sulfate, is available for little money in any well-stocked pharmacy. These colorless crystals are particularly soluble in water and were formerly used as a tanning agent or to fix dyes on fabrics. If a broom with bristles that have become soft is briefly placed in an alum solution, the bristles become firm and ready for use again.

 Increase service life

To ensure that the new broom serves you well for a long time, you can easily increase the service life of the bristles. Before first use, place the broom head in cold salt water for twenty minutes. For this, it is recommended to mix half a packet of salt with 10 liters of water.

Proper storage

Always store the broom upside down. For the garage and shed, there are great hooks where the broom can simply be hung up.

Better grip for the broom

Cut a finger off an old rubber glove and pull it over the end of the broom handle. This gives it a better grip!
