Rings are stuck

Humanity has been wearing jewelry for thousands of years. Not only to adorn themselves with necklaces, rings and bracelets, but also to give these pieces of jewelry a meaning. Did you know, for example, that the ring on a finger tells a story? In China, there is an explanation for every ring on a finger. The ring on the thumb indicates that you honor your parents; the one on the index finger stands for sibling love. A ring on the middle finger symbolizes the person as themselves, the ring on the ring finger is an expression of one's life partner, and wearing a ring on the little finger indicates one's own children.

How can I remove a ring from my finger?

These explanations are all well and good, but what do you do if a ring absolutely will not come off? In a panic, some people may already have reached for the pincers. But before the valuable piece of jewelry is destroyed and you possibly injure yourself as well, you should try these measures.

Twisting

Of course, simply pulling is often not possible. Instead, twisting is more likely to coax the ring off. It does not matter whether you turn it left or right—work your way forward slowly with the twisting motions. Avoid tugging, pulling and squeezing, as this could lead to swelling, which would make slipping the jewelry off even more difficult.

Lubricant

If twisting and turning do not help either, you can use lubricants. This does not mean industrial lubricating oils, but household products found in the kitchen and bathroom. Particularly gentle and kind to the skin are

  • Shampoo
  • Baby oil
  • Liquid soap
  • petroleum jelly
  • Vegetable oil

By using a lubricant, in many cases you can slide the ring off the finger much more easily and without significant damage. Simply spread the product around the jewelry and on the finger, turn the ring slightly and carefully pull it off the finger.

Arm-raising method

This method for removing a ring may sound adventurous at first, but it is actually a simple and effective way to get rid of the stuck piece of jewelry. To do this, simply hold the arm above the respective shoulder for several minutes so that the blood in the hand can flow back into the arm. This reduces the finger volume a little and the ring can be removed more easily.

Cold-water method

Here, too, you can achieve the desired goal with a little trick. To do this, take a bowl of cold water and place the entire hand in the cool water for several minutes. Ice water is not necessary and is not wanted at all; after all, frostbite should not occur. Normal cold tap water will do the job just fine. The blood vessels contract because of the cold water, and the ring is easier to pull off the finger.

What should I do once I have managed to remove the jewelry?

After the ring has successfully slipped off the finger, you should first cool, clean and otherwise treat the wounds on the finger cool, clean and otherwise treat. It is not advisable to put the ring back on. Having it resized by a jeweler is strongly recommended. The ring size should be measured and an adjustment made.
