Ketchup and mustard are among the most popular sauces in the world. Especially in the fast-food sector, these colorful sauces are simply a must on burgers, hot dogs, and fries. These side dishes are tasty, sweet, and delicious, but when stains occur, ketchup and mustard turn out to be really stubborn. Often our clothing suffers, but other textiles can also be affected. So that the annoyance doesn't have to win, there are some tips on how to remove the conspicuous remnants.

How do I get rid of ketchup stains?

First, the ketchup should be picked up from the clothing or textile with a damp cloth as quickly as possible. Because: the longer the sauce has time to bond with the fabric, the more difficult it can be to remove the stain. If the ketchup stain has even dried completely, you won't be able to remove the unsightly sauce edges at all.

After the stain has been roughly removed, the clothing is soaked in very cold water for at least ea quarter of an hour. After soaking, put the garment directly into the washing machine. Is there still a slight tomato shimmer to be seen after washing? Then simply hang the garment in the sun. The sun's rays are guaranteed to bleach the stain out.Ketchup stain on the carpet

If the sauce stain has gotten onto the carpet, some water is applied to the unsightly area.

do not rub the stain away, as this could at best make the overall appearance worse. Instead, dab the stain out. This way you will achieve a better result.Important:How do I tackle mustard stains?

Mustard also looks unsightly on shirts, blouses, or carpets. Therefore, the excess should first be removed with a cloth. It is also helpful to keep the textile taut and scrape off the sauce with the back of a table knife.

Now the clothing can be soaked in soapy water. If this treatment is not helpful, a small dash of ammonia is a real insider tip. Stains on white garments can also be well removed with a citric acid solution or 3% hydrogen peroxide.

However, the premise applies here:

The old stains are dabbed with a little glycerin. This is left on the material for some time so that it can really soak in. Then put the garment in the washing machine as usual and let it wash through well.

Does the stain remover from the drugstore also help?

Of course, there are some chemical agents that can be used for stain removal. These agents are often used, especially for residual stains or so-called stain edges. Often, one applies spirit lightly to the stain and rubs the sauce problem away. However, the color or the fabric material can sometimes suffer from this. Therefore, it is advisable to test the material with the agent on an inconspicuous area.

Basically, there is nothing wrong with industrial cleaners, yet such cleaners often help less with stubborn stains. Red wine or tar stains in particular are difficult to remove. A universal remedy often falters here. Household tips are therefore often more sensible and at the same time better for the environment.

these tips are possibilities, but they do not necessarily apply to every material or fabric. Therefore, in case of doubt, the garment should be taken to the dry cleaner.
