The dog is man's best friend – a loyal companion who stands by his side in all life situations. Nevertheless, a dog is still just a dog and by no means a human. Therefore, it is unavoidable to train this animal, otherwise the animal will train the human. Unfortunately, many dog owners realize this point too late, as there seem to be light years between theory and practice. So that the dog does not "dance on the nose" of its master or mistress too much, a few useful tips are set out here.
The dog needs boundaries and consistency
Of course, every new dog owner approaches dog training with enthusiasm and good intentions. Many dog owners usually already have plenty of experience with a four-legged friend and naturally want to implement this in the best possible way. Most intentions fail, especially with inconsistent dog owners, right from the start. However, the animal is by no means to blame for this, because it wants nothing more than to test its boundaries. It is usually the dog owner who lets the training slide a little, even though it is not that difficult to implement.
Tip 1: Be consistent
Take your animal's behavior to heart and work with it. A treat for success is not only important for the dog, it also shows both human and animal: we are taking a step forward. After all, the dog biscuit is only given for progress. Even if it requires a lot of time and energy, daily training must be carried out.
Tip 2: Occupation
Some four-legged friends, especially puppies, like to take on the home furniture out of boredom. To the chagrin of dog owners, one piece of furniture or another is often demolished over time. Not nice if it involves expensive furniture. But what went wrong here?
The dog must not only be physically, but also mentally occupied. If the animal is bored at any time of the day, it will want to occupy itself. It is not uncommon to hear from dog owners that the animal has simply and for no reason sharpened its teeth on furniture. What is wrong here?
The animal does not do this to annoy its master or mistress. The dog doesn't even know it has done something bad. But how can this mishap be remedied?
Give the animal plenty of chew toys and treats. It is a treat for the dog to work its teeth on pig ears, beef bones, and leather toys and also to clean them. But under no circumstances should you give the dog poultry bones! These are hollow and splinter in the animal's mouth. If it swallows such splinters, it can suffer serious injuries.
Tip 3: Exercise is the be-all and end-all for a dog
Give the dog plenty of opportunity for exercise. This means that the dog can let off steam and you take care of it. Furthermore, playing with a ball and other toys should be encouraged.
Praise your animal when it chews on something that is intended for it, scold it when it gets hold of your furniture. BUT: punish your animal at most with a deep voice, but never raise your hand, do not dare to kick the animal or punish it with a slap. Your dog will remember this and will also shy away from being petted. Instead, give the dog a bone and show it that this chew toy is right for its teeth – and not the sofa leg.
