The banana is a very popular fruit in Austria because it is very mild and can also be easily taken along. For babies, the banana is one of the first types of fruit to be fed. Here we have collected a few tips about the banana:
Storing the banana
Bananas should not be stored in the vegetable compartment of the refrigerator. They turn brown much faster there.
Letting bananas ripen
Green bananas can ripen very quickly with a simple tip. Wrap the green bananas in a damp cloth and then wrap them in paper.
Overripe bananas
If a banana is already brown and overripe, you can still do something with it. Peel the banana, mash it into a pulp in a bowl with a fork, for example, and mix in some lemon juice. Freeze this banana-lemon juice pulp and you will always have banana puree available for desserts or ice cream.
Sliced bananas do not turn brown as quickly
Sliced fruit like bananas tend to turn brown quite quickly once they are freshly prepared. This does not look very pretty, especially with cake decorations or fruit salads. However, if you sprinkle the fruit witha little lemon juice, they stay attractive for longer. Why? The citric acid prevents oxidation.
Cutting bananas evenly
With an egg slicer, the bananas can be cut into nice, uniform slices, which is very useful for decorations.
