The Dermaroller needling is a cost-effective alternative to laser treatments and is also known as microneedling, micro-needling, medical needling, or cosmetic needling. The treatment with the roller, which is covered in fine microneedles, leads to a refreshed and even complexion in a very short time, is minimally invasive, and effectively improves skin texture despite the short treatment duration of about one hour in total.

(Acne) scars, enlarged pores, early wrinkles, stretch marks, or pigment irregularities; these are the typical areas of application for dermaroller needling. These small blemishes often represent not only a cosmetic but also a psychological problem. Thanks to microneedling with a dermaroller, however, no one has to live with these small imperfections that occur over the course of a lifetime anymore.

At the renowned Dermacare Institute for aesthetic treatments in Vienna's city center, the experienced Dr. med. Gita Gharari, specialist in dermatology and venereology, is your contact person for Dermaroller needling.

We are very pleased to learn more about microneedling in the following interview with Dr. Gita Gharari, dermatologist at Dermacare Vienna.

Dermaroller needling: Dermatologist Dr. Gita Gharari in an interview with meinhaushalt.at

Dr. med. Gita Gharari, dermatologist at Dermacaremeinhaushalt.at: What exactly can one imagine a dermaroller to be?

Dr. med. Gita Gharari: You can imagine a dermaroller similar to a razor with a replaceable blade.

It consists of a handle and a roller that is covered with 0.5 to 1.5 mm long microneedles.

The roller with the fine needles is replaced before every treatment, just like the blades on a razor.

meinhaushalt.at: How does cosmetic needling work?

Dr. med. Gita Gharari: When you guide the roller over the skin, tiny injuries are created by the fine needles. The body increases blood circulation in the treated area and activates its own repair mechanisms.

This increases collagen production and the body builds up new collagen layers: the skin appears plumper and rosier.

Thanks to this natural process, cosmetic needling reduces wrinkles, scars, and stretch marks, and balances out pigment irregularities.
meinhaushalt.at: Is micro-needling with a dermaroller right for me?

Dr. med. Gita Gharari: Yes, if you desire skin rejuvenation or a finer-pored complexion, or if you want to reduce stretch marks or scars or balance out pigment irregularities.

If you suffer from skin cancer, acne-related inflammation, high blood pressure, or diabetes, for example, micro-needling with a dermaroller is not recommended.

Before the treatment at Dermacare, an initial consultation takes place, during which it is clarified individually with each patient whether needling is recommended or whether other treatment methods should be considered.

meinhaushalt.at: What is the procedure for microneedling at Dermacare?

Dr. med. Gita Gharari: The microneedling is performed by an experienced team of beauticians and myself and takes about 1 hour in total.

First, the area to be treated is cleaned. Then, a beautician applies a numbing lotion, which makes the treatment barely noticeable, except for a slight pinching sensation.

After a short exposure time, the needling begins. The dermaroller is gently guided over the skin, creating the aforementioned small injuries.

Depending on the indication, a skincare product is applied after the needling to maximize the effect. As a rule (depending on the initial situation), 3 treatments at intervals of 6 to 8 weeks promise ideal results.

meinhaushalt.at: Do I have to take time off after a dermaroller treatment, or am I immediately socially presentable?

Dr. med. Gita Gharari: The skin can be slightly swollen and red for up to 24 hours after the dermaroller treatment. As a rule, however, you can go about your usual activities the very next day after the treatment.

meinhaushalt.at: Dr. Gharari, we thank you very much for the interview and wish you all the best for the future!
