Being in nature with children is something wonderful. Many families use their free time to go hiking or simply to be outdoors. The federal state of Lower Austria offers plenty of beautiful excursion destinations that are great fun with children. Here I have summarized a few ideas for excursions for you:

Die Garten Tulln
It is always nice to do something in nature with children. Die Garten Tulln offers a diverse range of activities for families. In the largest ecological garden show in Europe, over 60 show gardens are presented. From the climbing plant garden to the cottage garden and the balcony garden, plenty of beautiful variations are displayed. In the gardens, things to try out or seating areas that invite you to linger are often hidden. For children, the adventure playground will be the highlight. A really large area is equipped with many play stations. Hidden behind it in the forest is a nature playground, which our children liked the best.
Furthermore, there are always special events for children, such as a puppet theater, workshops, or scavenger hunts. The treetop path is spectacular, where you get an impressive view of the grounds from a height of over 30 meters. There is a restaurant right at the entrance and a small guest garden at the other end, where snacks, drinks, and ice cream can be purchased.
Special features: Children up to 6 years old have free admission and the entire area is barrier-free!
Our conclusion: We are thrilled – the playground is great for our 5-year-old twins and they really played here for a long time. The gardens are beautifully designed with many details where our children could also always do something actively.

Myra Falls in Muggendorf near Pernitz
The Myra Falls are a highlight for young and old. The hike is just right for toddlers, and there is always something to marvel at. From the parking lot, it takes about 1 hour up to the Karnerwirt and 30 minutes down, always along the stream. At the Karnerwirt, the Myrabach stream begins to turn into a roaring body of water. It plunges over rocks in 14 gradients through the valley gorge along various paths.
During the hike, 26 wooden bridges and 8 sets of stairs are climbed.

Summer tobogganing in St. Corona
Why can't you go tobogganing in summer? Yes, you can: With the summer toboggan run in St. Corona, tobogganing fun can also be enjoyed in the warmer season. Alone or in pairs, you can be pulled up comfortably and then race down the mountain. You can choose the speed yourself using 2 brake levers. Children from the age of 8 are allowed to toboggan alone; for younger children, adults are allowed to ride along.

Liechtenstein Castle
Burg Liechtenstein on the edge of the southern Vienna Woods is a truly historic place. Here, not only can part of the Romanesque castle complex from the year 1130 be visited, but also numerous furnishings such as furniture, weapons, beamed ceilings, reliefs, and the castle chapel. Daily guided tours for tourists are held here, which last approximately 45 minutes. Especially for children, guided tours for every age group with appropriately pedagogically prepared content are offered. In the summer months of July and August, you can participate in special family tours.

Seegrotte in Hinterbrühl
The Seegrotte show mine in Hinterbrühl is a decommissioned gypsum mine with mythical-looking tunnels, the largest underground lake in Europe, and a mining and St. Barbara museum. The tour is conducted on two levels. On the upper level, drive tunnels, horse stables, and the conveyor mine and tower are visited. The "Great Lake" is located approx. 60 meters below the earth's surface and has a water surface of approx. 6200 m². The various tunnels are visited by boat.

Hohe Wand Nature Park
In the Hohe Wand Nature Park, you as a family can go on beautiful hikes. There is a children's adventure trail where children find colorful stones on the path that might even lead to a forest witch. The generously laid-out children's playground makes children's hearts beat faster: giant slide, mountain arena, dragon glider cable car, and much more. Here, children can let off steam to their heart's content. Furthermore, children can come into contact with animals, because in the nature park there is a petting zoo with rabbits, ponies, and donkeys that look forward to a visit. In the enclosures of the nature park, wild animals such as deer, ibex, or reindeer can also be observed in their natural habitat.

Underwater Garden Hochmoor Schrems
The Hochmoor Schrems Nature Park offers an indoor experience exhibition and an outdoor water garden with an otter enclosure. You have a breathtaking view over the nature park from the 20 m high 'Himmelsleiter' (stairway to heaven). In the exhibition, you can observe plankton organisms in the micro-theater. In the aquariums of the underwater zoo, you can observe catfish, perch, carp, or even native crayfish. Children can test how otters feel in the indoor otter slide. In the water garden, you walk over water courses, cross a pond using rope rafts, and visit ponds and moors. The Café UnterWasserReich invites you to linger comfortably. Here you can taste tasty Waldviertel specialties.
Extra tip: a nice experience is the otter feeding, which takes place daily in the season at 10:30, 13:30, and 16:00. The park is closed from November to March.

Ysperklamm Hike
The wild and romantic forest gorge with its many small waterfalls is a beautiful hike for families. The well-signposted family hiking trail leads over steps, wooden walkways, bridges, and stairs and allows you to marvel at impressive waterfalls. The Ysperklamm, which is a natural monument, is suitable for children from 5 years of age. The hiking trail has a length of approx. 2.4 km, with approx. 1 hour uphill and about 40 minutes for the descent.
