Around 10% of a house's total annual electricity consumption goes into lighting. This means a lot of money can be saved here. We have collected some practical tips here:
Saving electricity with lighting
Here are a few facts and energy-saving ideas that you can use to your advantage and that will save you real money:
- Energy-saving lamps are particularly useful here: an 11-watt energy-saving lamp costs €10 and has an average lifespan of 10,000 hours.
- If you replace a conventional 60-watt light bulb with a corresponding energy-saving lamp, for example, you save almost €40 per year in electricity costs.
- Save €24 per year by turning off the lights in unused rooms.
- Is constant lighting really necessary everywhere – for example, in outdoor areas? By installing effective motion detectors, you can save approx. €10 per year.
- Mount your lamps in such a way that targeted lighting of the parts of the room currently in use is possible.
- Curtains and drapes can "swallow" up to 50% of daylight. You save energy when daylight can flow into the rooms unhindered.
- Use light colors for walls, ceilings, and floors. Smooth, light-colored walls reflect up to 80% of light, while a dark wall, for example, only reflects 15%.
- Choose lamps that suit their function. A lower level of lighting is sufficient in living rooms than for lighting a workspace.
- Use reflective lampshades. They provide more light and require less electricity.
