Did the food turn out way too spicy? To avoid having to cook everything all over again, we have a few tips here that might still save the meal:

Asian dishes are too spicy

Add a little coconut milk or a pureed mango to the Asian dish.

Too much pepper in the soup or sauce

If too much pepper has ended up in the sauce or soup, try dairy products like heavy cream, crème fraîche, or yogurt, or some vegetable broth. Butter, water, or vegetable broth also reduce the spiciness. In soups, white wine vinegar can also neutralize the heat. Be careful, though: it also mellows out the other spices, so you usually have to replenish the other seasonings as well. If there is too much pepper in a salad, an extra splash of olive oil helps.

In cooked food, a grated potato or a piece of peeled apple can also take away the spiciness.

Extra tip:If you only notice while eating that the dish is too spicy, never drink water; instead, reach for bread or rice. Banana or a glass of milk also defuse the heat! It is best to serve toast with butter on the side: the bread cleanses the tongue after every bite and the butter dissolves it!
