Red cabbage is a healthy and tasty side dish. Anyone who wants to prepare it themselves has to be careful, as it unfortunately stains. Here we have a tip so that you can still prepare the cabbage without having stained fingers afterwards:
What is the best way to cut red cabbage?
Remove the outer leaves and place the red cabbage on a cutting board, take a large sharp knife and halve the red cabbage. Now cut the cabbage halves into quarters and rinse well. Remove the hard core by cutting the red cabbage quarters into a wedge shape. Also cut out the leaf ribs.
You can also chop the red cabbage by slicing it. With a kitchen slicer, it becomes particularly fine, as you get thin strips or shreds.
Lemon juice against red cabbage discoloration
To ensure your fingers are clean again afterwards, rub them immediately with lemon juice after cutting red cabbage.
Storage of red cabbage
It is best to store red cabbage whole, as it lasts longer. Wrap freshly harvested red cabbage in a damp cloth and store it in a cool room (cellar) or in the refrigerator; it will keep for up to 3 weeks.
Extra tip: the fresher the red cabbage, the more vitamins it contains!
