An M&M pack floating above the cake? Is that possible? Yes, it is, and it's quite simple if you know the trick. Are you as curious as I am? Then read the instructions for such a work of art here; your guests will surely be amazed:
Instructions for an M&M cake with a floating package
Ingredients:
- any cake (e.g.: Quick cup cake, Quark vanilla cake)
- 1-2 packs of M&M's
- 1 straw
- 20 g couverture (milk, dark, or white chocolate)
- Plastic wrap
Instructions
It is best to prepare the 'floating pack' the day before. To do this, carefully open the desired pack from the back with scissors and empty it. Now stuff the pack with cling film and seal it again with tape. Cut only a small slit in the front of the pack; this is where the straw will be attached.
Now first melt the couverture. It is best to do this over a water bath at medium heat. Heat a pot filled with water on the stove at medium heat and place a glass bowl or melting bowl containing the chocolate over the pot. Let the chocolate cool down to room temperature.
Now apply the couverture thickly to the straw; the consistency should not be too liquid, but almost firm again, so that the M&M's do not slide off immediately. Insert the couverture-covered straw into the cake at a slight angle. Now it is best to glue the M&M's on one by one around the straw. Patience is required here, as you should attach one layer after the other, otherwise the M&M's will slide down again. Leave a piece of the straw visible at the top and do not attach any M&M's there. Coat the tip of the straw with a little couverture and place the stuffed pack over it.
Cover the cake with couverture and sprinkle with the remaining M&M's.
