For years, it has been a big dream of mine to be able to see clearly WITHOUT glasses or contact lenses. Again and again, I read numerous pages regarding laser eye surgery and, if possible, testimonials. Gradually, there were also some in my circle of friends who 'dared' to do it. And this year, it was finally my turn: I dared to do it, and on April 22, 2015, I was at Excimer in Bratislava for laser eye surgery. Here is my report on laser eye surgery:
Field report on eye laser surgery in Bratislava
I had to be at the Excimer eye clinic in Bratislava at 8 a.m. My husband was so sweet and drove me there. A lot of preliminary examinations started right away: from measuring eye pressure, to measuring the eyes, to the diopters of the visual impairment, as well as countless eye drops in between, the morning flew by. Unfortunately, I could hardly see anything without glasses: on the left I had RA -6.25 and Dsph -0.75 and on the right LA -6.75 and Dsph -1.75, which represented a visual acuity of only 5%. I was very depressed and afraid that this high number could not be fully corrected, but lo and behold, shortly before the consultation I received the wonderful information that they could laser me to 100% with this laser. I was totally excited, and it was clear to me that I wanted to 'see' that. So around 10:30 a.m., the preliminary consultation for everyone who had also received a 'go'. Here, everything was explained to us again in great detail and also what we would have to do afterwards. However, he also rightly said that we wouldn't remember everything now and that we would have everything explained to us again the next day. He was, of course, right. Then we were told at the end that there would be sandwiches now, everyone got a painkiller, and then it would start.
The sandwiches were from Subway and very good, but I was already a little excited. Around 11:30 a.m., I was called up with 2 others, we took our tablets and waited for the laser treatment. I was the 3rd in this small group. You enter a dark room where the laser is set up. Here you have to lie down and then it starts. An eyelid speculum is mounted on one eye so that you can no longer blink, and the eye is treated with drops; you don't feel anything anymore. Now I just had to look at a green light and you can smell the scent of burnt skin. After just a few seconds, the second eye was prepared and also lasered in just a few seconds. I had no pain at all, only the eyelid speculum is a little uncomfortable. Then sit up and I could already see clearly! That was just incredible. Then into another room, where I was given drops again and then I was allowed to go back to the lounge. My eyes burned quite a bit there, as if I had gotten too much shampoo or chlorine in my eye. I was immediately given a cool mask on my eyelids and more pain-relieving drops. After about 15 minutes it was better and I could be driven home. The eyes were very sensitive to light and I wore sunglasses even in the car and kept my eyes closed. At home, I put in drops again and lay down immediately. After about 2 hours of sleep, I felt no more burning and saw completely clearly! Now it was important to always use drops so that the protective lens could swim well. With some great instructions, using the drops was no problem.
The next day, my first eye test at Excimer without glasses and I had 100% visual acuity. It is an indescribable feeling when the ophthalmologist projects the large letters on the wall and you think to yourself: 'Ridiculous, show me the smaller letters' :-).
After 4-5 days, the protective lens had to be removed. I did that in the evening. Keep putting drops in your eyes so that everything swims really nicely, then the protective lens moves very well and the second time it was already out. I recommend doing this in the evening, as my eyes were a little 'irritated' afterwards. I put the gel in right away and went to sleep. The next day, there was nothing left. The vision changes due to the drops, but most of the time I see super clearly. Now using the drops is routine and wearing sunglasses outside doesn't bother me at all, I even like it so that nothing can be blown into my eye.
Conclusion
In summary, I can say that laser eye surgery in Bratislava was one of my best decisions. The care was unique, I always felt in good hands. Nothing was missing, from the information to the catering and the medication, everything was always available. I wrote this report for all those who are still considering it, or are not sure, especially if they have as many diopters as I do. These testimonials have helped me a lot, because it is always different when someone reports it who has experienced it themselves. Here you can find lots of other testimonials: Testimonials Excimer
