Today I would like to introduce the best remedy for a cold, but first a brief explanation of what a cold actually is.
A cold is a harmless infection caused by various viruses. There are hundreds of different viruses involved, which is why there is NO vaccine against the common cold and there won't be one anytime soon. There is no vaccination and no therapy against cold viruses.
Medication for colds
You can make life easier with various medications such as nasal drops or sprays (the mucous membrane swells down), but unfortunately many nasal sprays are addictive and therefore have a negative effect if you take them for too long.
Antibiotics do not help against the flu or a cold. At least the probability of getting the flu can be reduced a little by getting a flu vaccination in time. Every year between October and December, this vaccination protects against influenza viruses, but not against the common cold.
My personal cold remedy
My personal cold remedy: cold water and tissues. When I'm at home, I carefully sniff cold water up my nose, which makes the mucous membrane swell down a little. When I'm on the go, I use standard tissues, preferably ones that are nice and soft. If you overdo it with tissues and blow your nose too often, Nivea helps with a red nose.
Correct hygiene behavior is very important when you have a cold so that the whole family does not get infected. Ventilate closed rooms 3–4 times a day, avoid physical contact with others, wash your hands several times a day, and use your sleeve to cough or sneeze.
In summary: untreated, a cold lasts 7 days; treated, it lasts 1 week.
