For little girls, a fairy castle is something fascinating. Why not bake a cake with such a decoration? That's what my daughter thought, and the next project was born. After some research, we had put together our dream cake and were ready to start:

Instructions for a fairy castle cake

To make the fairy castle cake tall, either bake the ingredients in a very small round springform pan (e.g., 18 cm diameter) or, like me, take double the amount and bake in a round springform pan with a 24 cm diameter:

Ingredients for the decoration

Instructions

Apple-vanilla cakeThe cake as a castle:

We decided on an apple-vanilla cake, which we prepared the day before. We baked the cakes using double the amount in two batches in the cake pan (24 cm diameter) and cut off the uneven parts with a knife.

The goal is for the cake to have 2 flat surfaces. We filled the cake with some apricot jam and stacked them on top of each other. We let the cake set overnight and only decorated it the next day.

The decoration for the castle:
Now we prepared the decoration. For this, we cut the wafer cookies into small windows and battlements, as well as a gate. For the battlements, simply cut the elongated wafers in half to create squares. For the windows, additionally trim the squares on one side with a knife so that the windows are rounded. For the gate, cut 2 large rectangles and also round them off slightly on one side with the knife.

We also cut the tips off 3 ice cream cones, and these will be placed on the heads of 3 gummy bear fairies.

Cut wafers and cones for decorationWe made 6 windows, 2 gate doors, and approx. 16 battlements. Depending on the size of the cakes and the princess's taste, this can of course be designed differently. My princess also decided on 5 towers, so we need 5 cones.

Now we continue with the glaze for the cake, as it is supposed to be a pink castle. To do this, melt the Candy Melts. Before you melt them, get everything within reach: the cake and the decoration, because it has to be done quickly, as the Candy Melts sauce hardens very quickly.

I melted the Candy Melts in the microwave; you can also do it in a water bath. Spread the melted Candy Melts sauce over the cake, preferably with an offset spatula. Here we started with the edge first, and my daughter immediately stuck on the windows and gates. Finally, we coated the surface with Candy Melts. Now place the cones on the cake, quickly sprinkle with pink sugar pearls, and distribute the gummy bears on top. Glue the fairy hats onto the gummy bears with a dab of Candy Melts.

We only used one pack of Candy Melts, but it would be better to use 2 packs, then the surface will look even nicer.

Fairy castle cake in pink for a children's birthdayWe didn't have any Candy Melts left for the cones, so we made a sugar glaze from one egg white and powdered sugar. Mix this mixture well with a few drops of pink food coloring. We poured this over the ice cream cones and immediately sprinkled them with colorful sugar pearls. We also poured some of the glaze over the battlements.

Finally, we made small flags. To do this, cut triangular flags out of pink construction paper and glue them onto a toothpick. The flags are simply stuck into the cones (it is good if you take the cones with the hole, then you can simply stick them in).

Extra tip:At a children's birthday party, make sure that every child can get a gummy bear or even a cone. Perhaps prepare the same number of cones with glaze as there are princesses, so that everyone can have one. And it's best to have the open packs ready. From experience, this could lead to discussions ?

Have you tried a cake like this too? I’d be happy to receive photos and suggestions for the instructions!
