If you want to lower a fever without medication first, you need a pair of cotton socks and fruit vinegar. My grandma always called them 'Essigpatscherl' (vinegar booties).

Home remedies – Vinegar socks for fever

Mix vinegar with water (ratio: 1 part vinegar, 5 parts water) and soak the cotton socks in it. Then wring them out and put them on the patient, put dry socks over them and let them work for about 1 hour.

If the fever has not dropped after about 10 to 15 minutes and the legs are not cold, the vinegar socks can be repeated after one hour.

The vinegar increases the cooling effect of the wet socks and thus lowers the fever. Be careful if the feet are cold or the patient is shivering: then you must not put on vinegar socks. Also, you may only repeat the vinegar socks once!

Extra tip:For very high fever, dip the socks in pure apple cider vinegar.
