How does tattoo removal work?

First, a detailed consultation is conducted where the doctors and specialists at Dermacare inform themselves about your wishes. Here you will also receive an individual assessment of the expected treatment success, the costs, and everything you should know about the procedure and aftercare. The duration of the treatment depends on the size of the tattoo and the cooling time required. At Dermacare, at least 30 minutes are scheduled for a treatment. During tattoo removal, the tattoo is "shot" with laser light so that the color pigments of the tattoo are shattered. These trigger a cleansing process in the body so that they are removed via the lymphatic system.

Between treatments, the skin and the immune system need a break to regenerate. Usually, an interval of approx. 6 weeks is maintained between treatments. It is important that the wound heals completely before starting the next treatment.

Are there differences between tattoos?

Yes, there are: Amateur tattoos are self-tattooed with a simple needle and ink. Professional tattoos are tattooed into the skin with a special machine. Professional tattoos are generally located a bit deeper in the skin.

What do I need to consider before or after a treatment?

Medications that are not taken regularly and increase light sensitivity should be avoided during treatment. After the treatment, the affected area must be kept dry and absolutely clean for 2 days to prevent infection. Also, the tattoo should not be exposed to the sun during the treatment period.

Which technology is used for tattoo removal?

At Dermacare, the modern Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser, developed specifically for tattoo removal, is used. This stands for safe and effective tattoo removal, as almost all colors of a tattoo can be removed. Dark blue and black color pigments are the easiest to remove. It becomes more difficult with light colors, as the skin should not be damaged. During the treatment, it can happen that the color changes, in which case an additional treatment is necessary.

How do I know that it is a professional treatment?

Experience and conscientious handling of the technology are crucial here. At Dermacare, all specialists have appropriate additional training. You can take a close look at the satisfactory results in the before-and-after photos.

Are there side effects to tattoo removal?

The treated area will be red and swollen immediately after removal. A crust that forms afterwards should not be removed, as there is a risk of scarring. With very dark skin, pigment spots may be visible. Most importantly, follow the dermatologist's care instructions exactly to avoid bacterial infections.

Is tattoo removal painful?

Yes, pain can occur, which of course also depends on the sensitivity of the person and the location of the tattoo. As a rule, it can be said that the sensation is roughly comparable to that during the tattooing process.

Do scars remain after tattoo removal?

No, at Dermacare the skin-friendly Nd:YAG laser is used and leaves no scars if the client follows the specialists' instructions. Only with particularly tanned skin can it happen that light pigment spots are visible.
