For our honeymoon, we wanted something very special. We decided on a long-haul trip for when it starts getting cooler back home. The trip took us to Thailand in November, specifically to Phuket. We liked the Patong Beach Hotel right away, so we set off for Thailand as a couple at the end of October that year. Read here to see how we got on:
The 4-star Patong Beach Hotel in Phuket
The Patong Beach Hotel is very centrally located and set back a bit from the street. It is only 200 m away from Patong Beach and Bangla Night Street. We still had a little noise because a hotel was being built right next door and it was a construction site.
Our deluxe room had a beautiful four-poster bed and a large bathtub. Our room was on the 2nd floor and we could see the pool. In the morning, a really great breakfast buffet awaited us.
The hotel has 2 very beautiful pools that were very well maintained. There are sun loungers all around. However, we were only ever at the pools for a short time because there was just so much to discover.
We felt very well taken care of in the hotel. We really liked it.
The beaches & excursions in Phuket
Patong Beach
The expansive Patong Beach is practically right on the hotel's doorstep. You only have to cross one street and you are on a large beach. The loungers and umbrellas are subject to a fee. The beach consists of very fine sand and slopes gently into the really very warm water.
Jet skis can be rented on the beach. Thais keep coming by offering massages or food.
Freedom Beach
Our 1st excursion takes us to Freedom Beach by long-tail boat. After a short ride, you arrive at the beautiful beach. A time is agreed upon for the pickup here (I was a little nervous about whether it would work – of course, it did!).
Tip: definitely bring snorkeling gear!
There is a small hut here where you can eat and drink well. Sun loungers and umbrellas are also available here and can be rented for the whole day. You can snorkel nicely here; there was very little going on on this beach – just to our taste. At the agreed time, our boat came back and brought us safely back to Patong Beach.
Kata Noi Beach
This excursion took us south towards Kata Noi Beach by tuk-tuk.
Laen Sing Beach
We also take a tuk-tuk to Laen Sing Beach in the north. To get to the beach, we have to climb a few steps and find a beautiful, quiet beach. Loungers are quickly found and it's back into the water for snorkeling.
Excursion by moped
This viewpoint is advertised everywhere and is very well known. Here you have a view of the 3 bays: Kata Noi, Kata, and Karon. It looks really great, doesn't it?
Nai Harn Beach
We started another excursion here and visited Nai Harn Beach. The weather was a bit changeable that day and unfortunately it was a bit more cloudy.
Rawai Beach and Ko Bon
That was an adventure: At Rawai Beach, we chose a secluded beach from a photo: Ko Bon Island. We are taken there by long-tail boat and are really just the two of us there. At the agreed time, we are picked up again by boat – it was wonderful!
Surin Beach
For the trip to Surin Beach, we rent a jeep. The beautiful Surin Beach is also located to the north. A long sandy beach with loungers, umbrellas, and beautiful water awaits us here. Unfortunately, the weather didn't play along for us that day and it was a bit cloudy, but still nice and warm.
Karon Beach
We also head to Karon Beach: A long sandy beach can also be found here, with sun loungers and umbrellas. When we were there, we also had a few small waves. There are cool drinks at a small bar.
Elephant riding
Near Kata Noi, there is Kok Chang Safari – elephant riding. Of course, I really wanted to try that out too. So we drove there on our moped and dared to go for an elephant ride. I can only recommend it; it was quite an experience.
Jimmy’s Lighthouse
We also visit Jimmy’s Lighthouse by moped. We hike around a bit there and also have a beautiful view of the sea.
Bangla Road
Bangla Road starts right next to our hotel – there is a lot going on here in the evenings – one bar after another. One evening, an ice sculpture was even set up. Of course, there are also many shops here offering fake designer goods. We were out and about here several evenings and we liked it; there was really a lot to see and a lot going on.
Conclusion on Thailand vacation
We really enjoyed the vacation – there are really, really great beaches here. The weather was wonderfully warm in November and the water was too. If it rained briefly, it stayed warm anyway. I was very enthusiastic about Thai cuisine – I have never eaten so well. I definitely want to travel to Thailand again – I liked it so much.
