But before you decide to buy a pony or Horse, you should find out extensively what you are getting into. Because the purchase is not the end of it. You have to find suitable accommodation for the animal, because the animals can hardly move in with you at home. There is a very large selection of pony and horse farms that rent out spaces for the animals. But you should take a close look around the farm. - Do the animals have the opportunity to go to the pasture?
- Is there an indoor riding arena at the stud farm?
- Is there the possibility of open stable keeping?
- Who takes care of the animal if you are prevented?

- Which veterinarian looks after the riding stable?
- What costs arise?
You should consider these questions in advance. Stabling and caring for a horse are quite expensive. A visit to the vet can cost several hundred euros. See if your budget can even afford the upkeep of a horse or pony.
The right stable for your own horse
When choosing a stable, you should ensure that the animals are kept in a species-appropriate manner. This means that the stable must be mucked out regularly. Daily feeding and running water in the horse boxes are important. The animals should have the opportunity to go to the pasture every day. Horses in the wild love to gallop across meadows and let off steam. Is there someone in the stable of your choice who can give you advice on keeping horses and ponies?
Which horse should you buy? Pony or horse?
If you are buying the animal exclusively for the children, it can easily be a pony. But it should be remembered that children also get bigger and grow. At some point, the time will come when the children are too big for a pony. When purchasing a real horse, the whole family can ride the animal. But there are other things to consider. Should the horse be a pure leisure horse that you can go riding with, or do you want to go to tournaments and other riding events with the horse? Some horse breeds are particularly suitable for tournaments if they are trained correctly.
Since the purchase and maintenance of a pony or horse is very costly and time-consuming, you should perhaps look for a riding share in advance. If the desire for your own pony or horse is still so great, you at least know what kind of work you are getting into.
