Spreads are not only popular at wine taverns. At home, too, when a few friends drop by, a spread is a quick meal to prepare. Add some fresh bread and the snack is ready. But usually, they don't look all that appealing. That changes today, because we have put together some really great decorations made from fruit and vegetables that will amaze everyone:
Flower decoration
Ingredients:
- Carrot slices
- Pickles
- Corn kernels
- possibly small marzipan cutters
Instructions:
For the flower, cut 2/3 of the gherkin into strips, so don't cut all the way through so that it still holds together. Place the gherkin on the spread. Now arrange a flower out of carrot slices (ours are simply raw!) over the gherkin; to do this, arrange 2 circles of carrot slices. Leave some space in the middle and insert the corn. Depending on the space, several flowers or, as in our case, a second one can be suggested.
Extra tip:Cut small figures out of the carrot with a marzipan cutter and top with a corn kernel; it also looks very pretty.
Rooster decoration
Ingredients:
- 1 hard-boiled egg in slices
- 1 red bell pepper
- 2 pickled cucumbers
Instructions:
For the rooster, cut a hard-boiled egg into slices. Place a large slice for the body and a smaller one for the head on top of each other on the spread. Cut 3 large strips from the bell pepper to form the tail. Place 1 triangle with slight fringes as a wing on the egg body. 2 smaller strips form the feet of the rooster. Cut rather round circles from the bell pepper to represent the beak and the cockscomb. Cut the pickled cucumbers into fans, i.e., cut 2/3 of the cucumber into strips and place them on the right and left of the rooster. Cut something small and round out of a pickled cucumber so that the rooster also gets a nice eye.
Fish decoration
Ingredients:
- Lemon slices
- Peppers
- Dill
Instructions:
For the fish, spread the spread in the shape of a fish. Sprinkle the fin with the dill. For the scales, cut the lemon into slices and halve the slices again. Arrange them like scales on the fish body. For the eye, we cut off the end of the lemon. The mouth is cut out of pieces of bell pepper.
Extra tip: If you don't like lemons, you can also use onion slices.
Pig decoration
Ingredients:
- 2 slices (slightly thicker!) of meat sausage
- Pickles
Instructions:
Cut 2 slices slightly thicker from a meat sausage. Cut 2 holes into one slice with a knife as a nose. Cut 2 smaller triangles out of the 2nd slice as ears. Cut off a thin strip for the tail. Spread the spread somewhat spherically and attach the pig decoration. For the eyes, cut small round dots out of a pickled cucumber.
