Mint syrup

Herbs are not just for cooking. A mint syrup is refreshing and is very often needed for cocktails. Here I have a recipe for you on how to make mint syrup quickly and easily yourself:

Make your own mint syrup

Ingredients for 2 bottles of 500 ml each:

  • 2 bunches of very aromatic mint
  • 2 lemons
  • 1 l water
  • 400 g sugar

Instructions:

Mint syrupIt is best to crush the mint leaves well with a rolling pin beforehand so that the essential oils can be released even better. Slice the lemon and put it in a large mason jar together with the mint leaves and the sugar. Pour the water over everything and stir until the sugar has completely dissolved.

Cover this mixture and let it steep in a cool place for 1-2 days. Then pour through a fine sieve, bring the collected syrup to a boil in a saucepan, and let it boil for 5 minutes. Pour while hot into prepared bottles and seal well.

Alternatives: Instead of mint, you can also use lemon balm, lemon thyme, lemongrass, sage, violets, roses, linden blossoms, or lemon verbena. Instead of lemon, you can also use ginger or the juice and/or zest of an orange or lime.
