Cherries

Sour cherry compote goes perfectly with desserts, but is also tasty just to eat on its own. If you can harvest sour cherries yourself and don't just want to make jam out of them, you can make your own sour cherry compote:

Making sour cherry compote yourself

Ingredients for 3 jars of 500 ml each:

  • 1 kg sour cherries
  • approx. 150 g sugar

Instructions:

Wash the sour cherries, remove the stems and pit them. Pack the fruit tightly into the prepared jars up to 3 cm below the rim. Sprinkle 2-3 tablespoons of sugar over each jar and fill with water until the fruit is covered, but there is still at least 2 cm of space to the rim.

Seal the jars well and preserve them in a canning pot at 75 °C for approx. 30 minutes or at 180 °C in the oven.
