New Year's Eve is perfect for a roaring party with good food and beautiful decoration. But it doesn't always have to be a party with many guests; a quiet evening with friends is also a lovely way to welcome the new year. What should definitely not be missing is appropriate decoration and good food. Here we have collected plenty of ideas for a dinner and table decoration for a harmonious New Year's Eve party.

Buffet, raclette or fondue for New Year's Eve?

What on earth should I make for dinner on New Year's Eve? Many people have certainly asked themselves this question. To make this easier to answer this year, I have collected some great ideas for a very special evening:

Fondue for New Year's Eve

Cheese fondue

On New Year's Eve, many people like to have a Fondue. Since it takes wonderfully long, it shortens the waiting time for the turn of the year. Here you have the choice between the classic meat fondue or a Cheese fondue. Both are very good and easy to prepare, so that the hosts can also sit at the table and join in the celebration.

Cheese fondue is quite quick to prepare, as you 'only' have to melt the cheese in the fondue pot and make sure that this mixture does not burn. There are already ready-made products available in supermarkets that are very easy to handle. Antipasti, vegetables and fruit as well as plenty of fresh bread are popular side dishes.

With meat fondue, most of the work is cutting the meat into small pieces. If you like, you can also offer vegetables such as mushrooms or zucchini in addition to the meat. You should calculate approx. 200 g of meat per person. For this fondue, you have to choose between a vegetable broth or oil. Both are heated beforehand and only then placed on the table on the rechaud (or on the electric plate). Various sauces that harmonize with the meat are offered with it.

Raclette for New Year's Eve

Raclette

Raclette is also a popular way to shorten the evening on New Year's Eve. Here, the meat is grilled on a small table grill. In addition, cheese or egg dishes can be prepared in small pans.

The advantage here is also that you can prepare everything very well and when the visitors arrive, you can simply put everything on the table. Everyone can cook their ingredients to their own taste. In addition, this variant offers many more possibilities due to the grill and the pans. Vegetables as well as fish can be grilled.

Buffet for New Year's Eve

Cold platter - buffet

On New Year's Eve, it is practical if there is always something to eat available, as the evening is very long. Cold platters, such as a Cheese platter or sausage platters are very suitable. Decorations for cold platters also provide a visual treat and should not be missing. Salads, such as a Pasta salad, a Couscous Salad with Chickpeas or a fruity Salad with figs and cheese are also popular. Minced meat patties with feta cheese or quickly made sausages go well with this.

A nice idea and an eye-catcher are Stuffed eggs, vegetable skewers or antipasti. Very delicious are also thin slices of salmon, prosciutto with melon or cold roast pork or caraway roast, as well as small schnitzels. Another possibility are open-faced sandwiches, which can be topped with fish, sausage and cheese to your heart's content and decorated wonderfully.

Lucky mushrooms

Mozzarella with tomatoes as toadstools

Ingredients:

  • Eggs, hard-boiled
  • Tomatoes
  • Mayonnaise

For the lucky mushrooms, cut the top of the hard-boiled eggs a little straight on both sides so that the lid holds and the mushroom can stand well. For the cap, cut the lid of the tomato straight and place it on the egg. If it doesn't hold well, you can smear the whole thing with a little mayonnaise as 'glue'. Then distribute many white dots on the tomato lid with the mayonnaise. This works very well with a disposable syringe or a piping bag or a freezer bag where you cut off a small corner.

Extra tip: If you don't want to use eggs, you can also make these mushrooms with mozzarella: Use small mozzarella balls and cherry tomatoes for this.

Stuffed vegetables, fruit and bread

Stuffed Tomatoes

Looks good and is also healthy: Serve spreads in real vegetables: Liptauer can be served in half a bell pepper, for example, or salads in a hollowed-out tomato.

Good 'containers' for spreads or sauces are hollowed-out bell peppers, zucchini, tomatoes, cucumbers, avocados or large mushroom caps. For a salad, you can also use a large hollowed-out melon or a pumpkin.

A loaf of bread can also be hollowed out and filled with spread.

Sweet surprises

Made by my dear sister-in-law Karin

Bake muffins or sweet little cakes for dessert. The eye-catcher is the decorations made of colorful marzipan. To do this, color the marzipan with colorful food coloring and use small cookie cutters to cut out lucky charms such as mushrooms, hearts or little pigs. Distribute the marzipan figures on the muffins.

Those who are more experienced can shape small figures, such as little pigs or mushrooms, out of the marzipan and distribute them on the muffins.

Banitsa with lucky charms

Bulgarian Banitsa

In Bulgaria, it is a nice tradition to make a Banitsa, and hide many small good wishes in it. The good wishes are first written on paper and then wrapped in aluminum foil and hidden between and in the dough rolls. It is best to distribute them so that you can always catch at least one wish when cutting. If guests are coming, adjust to the exact number of visitors or add a little more.

Decoration for a New Year's Eve party

Party decoration for New Year's Eve

For New Year's Eve, you can also have beautiful decoration. Especially the table can be festively decorated on this evening.

One idea is a mystical table decoration, as New Year's Eve always brings some uncertainty with it: Many wonder what the new year will bring. So the table can be decorated with magic utensils, such as a magic wand, tarot cards or glass balls.

At the turn of the year, there can also be a lot of glitter. You can cut out lucky charms in the shape of little pigs, cloverleaves, etc. from beautiful glitter paper and distribute them on the table or attach them as a napkin ring with a matching glitter cord. Glitter umbrellas stuck in champagne glasses also look very pretty and are distributed on the table in no time. Furthermore, pearls, disco balls or sparkling garlands can also be arranged on the table. Beautiful candles in beautiful candle holders should also not be missing. Place these in the matching colors of the decoration.

A nice craft idea are self-designed party hats, which can be individually designed with construction paper and lots of glitter and rhinestones. But streamers and confetti can also decorate the table on New Year's Eve.
