Doing your grocery shopping online? Yes, that is now possible at Billa as well. If you, like me, prefer to sit comfortably in front of the computer and don't want to queue up with many others at the checkout, you should try online grocery shopping. Fridays, Saturdays, and especially before holidays, grocery stores are usually very, very crowded, and even finding a parking space is a challenge. So, this year before Christmas, I pulled myself together and tested the new Billa online shopping service. Here, I will report on my experiences with online grocery shopping:
Billa Online Shop Review – Delivery to Gänserndorf
Shopping in the Billa online shop starts on the Billa website. I registered and also entered my customer card for promotions. An access code is sent by letter, so promotions on the card can only be taken into account after this. Online, all promotions are always visible, and discounts are always deducted. Furthermore, it is also possible to use credit to take advantage of promotions where you can buy products more cheaply (e.g., Tupperware, knives, towels, etc.).
The online shop is divided into several categories:

A large product range from Billa can be found in the categories. Here you can browse in peace and add products to your shopping cart with a click. You can always switch back and forth between the shopping cart and the online shop to check, for example, if everything is in the basket. The items in the basket remain saved and are not lost. If a product is sold out in the meantime, this is immediately displayed in the shopping cart.
The products are listed very clearly with descriptions, and you can see promotions very well. There is also a separate menu item just for promotions, where current offers are visible across all categories. I also find the gift ideas section very practical, where nice chocolates, good wine, gift sets, or similar items are listed.
Furthermore, you can also choose different categories to filter by: dietary style (vegan or vegetarian), organic, country of origin, by brand, or by quality seal.
Products that you buy repeatedly can be marked with a heart and always appear in the shopping cart, so you can simply click them and add them to your basket.
Once you have everything you need, you go to the checkout – without queuing. At the checkout, suitable discounts can be selected if you provided your customer card during registration. You can also choose whether you want to accept substitute products.
Then it's on to the delivery time slot: For Billa deliveries to Gänserndorf, only certain time slots are possible per day. For example, delivery is always on Thursdays from 6 PM to 9 PM. If these are full, you can no longer select them. You can always have a delivery made up to 10 days in advance.
Once you have found your delivery window, the payment method is selected; you can pay via PayPal or bank deduction, and you specify where the delivery should go. Here you can tick a box to be informed exactly when the delivery will arrive.
Those who wish can have it picked up at the nearest branch by selecting Click & Collect, or have it delivered to their home.
Advantages of online grocery shopping:
- You see the total of your purchases at a glance in your basket
- Simple and clear control of what is already in the basket
- You can do your shopping in peace at any time
- Prices and promotions can be compared much better
- Promotions can be selected better, not just at the checkout like in the store
- You are independent of opening hours
- No long waiting at the checkout
- No searching for a parking space
- No constant loading and unloading of the cart in the store and at the parking lot
- No annoying stowing of groceries in the car
- No heavy carrying of groceries into the house
- The shopping is delivered comfortably to your home at your desired time
- You can never forget the shopping list
- At the same time, recipes with ingredients can be read
Disadvantages of online grocery shopping:
- At Billa, the time window is limited (only a certain time per day)
- possibly that you cannot inspect fruit and vegetables
- possibly, if something important for a recipe is missing, that you only find out about it on the same day
Having groceries delivered to your home
I ordered on Sunday evening and for my test, I ordered from almost all categories, including fruit and vegetables, delicatessen, bread, and frozen food. I selected the delivery for Wednesday from 3 PM to 6 PM.
On the delivery day, I received an email stating that my delivery would arrive at an approximately specified time. In the afternoon, shortly before 3 PM, a nice man arrived who carried the groceries into my hallway. I only had to sign for the delivery. It should be noted here that there is hardly any time to check the groceries, BUT I have NEVER had anything missing so far. Therefore, I don't even do it anymore, and it always works out.
With our 1st purchase, we received a Kuner sauce as a gift. Every now and then, a product is added for free; we have already had cans, yogurt, etc. Also very nice.
The products are stored in bags. However, everything was still very cold. The fruit, vegetables, and bread were very fresh and suited us very well. I had no complaints here; everything was there, and I was very satisfied. I had already paid via PayPal, which also worked very well. Then you just have to sign that you actually received the purchase, and that's it.
Extra tip:With the bags, you sometimes have to be a bit careful, as some are packed too heavily and can tear. Better to be careful and carry them into the house with one hand underneath.
Conclusion
I really enjoyed not having to leave the house for once and being able to browse the assortment in peace in the evening. It was very relaxing to be able to read through the online recipes on the side. Here, you can never forget the shopping list. The shopping can also be done in several stages, as the shopping cart remains saved for a few days. It is also great that you always have an eye on the total sum of the purchases. It is very practical that you get the delivery delivered comfortably to your home and do not have to laboriously unload it from the car.
My rating is very good, and since then I have been ordering groceries almost exclusively online. However, I always switch between Interspar and Billa. Interspar has a much larger time window than Billa for Gänserndorf.
